The Madison County Arts Council (MCAC) is announcing announce auditions for “Wizard of Oz.” The musical will be on stage July 10-12 in the London High School auditorium. “Wizard of Oz” is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year.

Stephanie Stephens will serve as director assisted by Brynne Mayne as choreographer, Ailene Albrecht as accompanist, Bruce Thompson as technical advisor and Jeff Gates as assistant to the director. Bringing community musicals to Madison County since 1998, MCAC presented “Guys and Dolls” in 2013.

There are a number of solo and chorus roles for adults in addition to the main characters including the Wicked Witch, Glinda the Good Witch, and various Ozians. The show will also have a children’s chorus for ages 8 and older. Children and teens fill out the lively cast ranging from flying monkeys to guards to jitterbugs to the Munchkins. The show is a great opportunity for families to do a show together.

Auditions will be held at 2 p.m. May 3 at West Jefferson Methodist Church, 2 p.m. May 4 at London First Presbyterian Church, and at 7 p.m. May 5 at Jonathan Alder High School. This is a group-type audition, so each night will begin at the assigned time. Callbacks will be held at 7 p.m. May 6 at London First Presbyterian Church.

Because this is a musical, each person is asked to bring a song to sing. A piano accompanist will be provided. Also, each person will be asked about their dance experience. Following each person’s singing audition, some may be asked to read and/or sing from the script.

Those who audition are asked to bring a list of conflicts they may have coming up. Rehearsals will begin May 13 and will typically be held Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday evenings (amount of rehearsals to attend will depend on your assigned role, if applicable). Special rehearsals may be added. Cast members will also rehearse every night the week of the show. Cast members may also be asked to pay a costume fee. In the past this has been around $25.
