A fire investigation has determined that the fire that broke out at the Valleyview Pool was arson.

On Dec. 27, 2019 firefighters were dispatched to 346 N. Hague Ave. on a report of a fire. Upon arrival, rescue workers found a large fire on the first and second floors of the Valleyview Pool building. The structure was determined to be vacant and the size of the fire caused fire companies to back out of the building and fight the fire from the exterior. The structure was a total loss, with damage estimates exceeding $100,000.

Columbus fire investigators determined the fire to be intentionally set on the second floor of the building. An extensive investigation, with significant assistance provided by the Franklin Township Fire Department, the Valleyview Police Department, the surrounding community and our other community partners, has identified three juveniles who are responsible for setting the fire. Columbus Fire investigators interviewed the three juveniles who each confessed to their part in the crime. The juveniles will face charges for felony arson.

The Columbus Division of Fire and fire investigators said the organization sincerely appreciates the assistance of all of the community partners and citizens in helping to keep the community and firefighters safe.
