Two arrests were made the morning of Jan. 29 in connection to a house in London known for illegal drug activity.

At 7:10 a.m., the Madison County Major Crimes Task Force, with assistance from the London Police Department, Madison County Sheriff’s Office and Franklin County Sheriff’s SWAT Unit, initiated a search warrant on a residence at 59 E. Fifth St.

“Inside were six residents. All but one were taken into custody for questioning,” reported Madison County Sheriff John Swaney shortly after officers entered the home.

Methamphetamine was recovered from the house. One person was arrested for trafficking in drugs. Another person was arrested for a probation violation out of Madison County Municipal Court.

“We had received several complaints of narcotics activity at that house. (Using undercover officers), the Task Force was able to purchase methamphetamine from the house which led to the search warrant,” explained Lt. Bryan White with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.

“People could purchase drugs there, and people were staying overnight there. You see that frequently with drug houses. A lot of these people don’t have homes of their own and end up flopping there.”

White said the search warrant was executed smoothly with no altercations or injuries.
Swaney commented, “Hopefully, the residents of London will be pleased to see we are fighting the drug epidemic we face in the county and in London.”
