Blessing of pets
Derek Taylor, a member of Zion Lutheran Church in West Jefferson, holds Smokey the cat and Missy the gerbil. Hunter the dog is on the floor and Ninja and Ice are the parakeets on his head. Not pictured are Lime the parakeet, Bob the beta, Rock and Stone the tadpoles that will become frogs, and nine fish in a 30-gallon tank. Taylor get all of his pets together for Zion Lutheran’s “Blessing of the Pets” service to be at 4 p.m. Oct. 4. The public can bring their pets (on a leash or in a cage). The church is located at 221 S. Center St. in West Jefferson. |

Craft show will HELP Judy Maggard (left) displays some of the wood crafts she plans to sell at the HELP House craft show on Oct. 25. The show will take place in the Della Selsor Building on the Madison County Fairgrounds in London from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Admission is free. Booth rental is $25.
