Groveport Senior Center
The Groveport Senior Center, located in the Groveport Recreation Center, 7370 Groveport Road, offers the following:
•Mondays -play bridge at 11:30 a.m. or progressive euchre at 12:30 p.m.
•Tuesdays – double deck pinochle at 12:30 p.m.
•Wednesdays – all – noon: poker, quilting;  5 p.m.: double deck pinochle; fourth Wednesday – 10 a.m. – Super Game Day.
•Thursdays – all – 9:30 a.m. – crafts; 11:45 a.m. – lunch; first Thursday, 10 a.m. – Game Day; 12:30 p.m. – hand & foot; second Thursday – 9 a.m. to noon – county nurse; 12:30 p.m. – business meeting; 1 p.m. – hand & foot; third Thursday, 12:30 p.m. – cash bingo, hand & foot following bingo; fourth Thursday, 12:30 p.m. – euchre, hand & foot.
•Fridays offer bowling at Eastland Lanes at  9 a.m. and poker at 6 p.m.
•Saturdays progressive euchre at 6 p.m.
•Sundays are to just come in and relax.

Heritage Nature Center
The following programs are offered at the Heritage Nature Center at the log house in Heritage Park on Wirt Road in Groveport. Programs are free and open to children of all ages unless otherwise specified. For information call 836-3333. 
•Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. – An Animal Encounter – The Ohio Wildlife Center visits Groveport Town Hall, 648 Main St.
•Oct. 18 at noon – Track It:  Study animal tracks and make plaster molds and prints to take home.  Meet at Groveport Town Hall, 648 Main St.
•Oct. 25 at 7:30 p.m. –  Not So Scary Movie:  Bring the family to Heritage Park for a movie. Bring non-perishable food items and participate in Make A Difference Day. In case of  inclement  weather, meet at KidSpace, 630 Wirt Road.
•Oct. 29 at 7:30 p.m. – History Comes Alive:  Learn fascinating facts and folklore from costumed docents and tour Groveport Cemetery.  Refreshments provided.

Groveport Garden Club

The Groveport Garden Club meets on the first Tuesday of each month at Groveport Zion Lutheran Church, 6014 Groveport Road, Groveport. The club welcomes anyone interested in gardening. For information call Virginia Myers, 836-5456.

Halloween celebration
The Groveport Recreation Center, 7370 Groveport Road, will host a "Halloween Celebration" on Oct. 25 from 6:30-9 p.m. for ages four and up. Cost is $8 for residents and $10 for non-residents. There will be a costume contest, pumpkin carving contest, and a talk about trick-or-treat safety. Space is limited and pre-registration is required by Oct. 22. Refreshments and snack will be provided. Bring a "pumpkin guts" scooping spoon, a bag for your seeds. A  safety carving knife, pumpkin, and design will be provided. Groveport Parks and Rec fall photography contest

The Groveport Parks and Recreation Department is offering a fall photography contest for ages: 17 and under (amateur); 18-54 (amateur/professional); and 55+ (amateur professional). Entry fee is $5 (one entry per person.) Registration deadline is Oct. 15. All eligible photos will be on display at the Groveport Recreation & Senior Center through Nov. 15. Health fair
Summerville at Lakeview Assisted Living, 4000 Lakeview Crossing in Groveport, will hold a health fair on Oct. 15,  from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.  to focus on the positive aspects of growing older, and also to inspire seniors to improve their physical, mental, social and financial health. Flu shots
Summerville at Lakeview, 4000 Lakeview Crossing in Groveport, has  teamed up with Maxim Health Systems to offer flu shots on-site on Oct. 15 from noon – 2 p.m.  If you are at high-risk of complications from the flu, live or work with high-risk individuals, or just want to reduce your chances of contracting the flue, getting a flu shot is your best protection.  Be the first in your neighborhood to take the initiative to protect yourself and your loved ones today. Halloween tote bag

Learn how to sew a Halloween tote bag  on Oct. 14, at Groveport Town Hall, 648 Main St. Instructor Vernita Francis will provide the material, students should bring their machine, dark color thread and sewing supplies.  Cost is $25 for residents and $27 for non-residents. Victorian Halloween
Then come to this fun-filled fall event featuring fortune telling, tea leaf readings and (temporary) henna tattoos, at the Groveport Town Hall, 648 Main St. on  Oct. 15. This event is first come, first served and begins at 7 p.m. Refreshments provided. Cost is $5 to $20.   Registration helpful at (614) 836-3333.

Fall costume ball
Bring your family and furry friends to the "Fall Costume Ball," a fundraiser hosted by Friends for Life Animal Haven, a local non-profit animal rescue group on Oct. 26 from 2-6 p.m. at Heritage Park (551 Wirt Road) in Groveport. Featuring performances by the local folk artist duo, Avalon Nine, the festival will also include food, games and a raffle and silent auction.  Area rescue groups will have adoptable pets and adoption information on hand. Admission is free. Flu shots in Madison Twp.

Flu shots will be available at the Madison Township Community Center, 4575 Madison Lane, Groveport, on Oct. 28 from 1-3 p.m. and Nov. 6 from 10 a.m. to noon. Cost is $25 per shot. Medicare Part B, MediGold, or Medicaid will be accepted. For an appointment, call 836-5308.

Wild Ohio exhibit
"Wild Ohio," an interactive exhibit featuring the plants and animals of Ohio, will be on display at Groveport Town Hall, 648 Main St., through October. The exhibit is a partnership with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Metro Parks, and the Ohio Wildlife Center. It includes a wide selection of animal skulls, and furs from the Groveport Heritage Park Nature Center, taxidermied animals, insect mounts, tracking, Ohio plant identification, reptiles and amphibians, wildlife photos, and presentations by local naturalists. The exhibit is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m.  For information call (614) 836-3333.

Homework Help Center

The new Homework Help Center in the Southeast Branch of Columbus Metropolitan Library, 3980 S. Hamilton Road, Groveport, is now open.
The Homework Help Center is a designated space in the library where students grades k-12 receive free help with homework and school projects from staff members and volunteers. The space is equipped with computers with free Internet access, local area textbooks, pencils, calculators, scissors, glue, and other school supplies for students to borrow. Slate painting

Troop 71 celebrates
Boy Scout Troop 71, Groveport, will  hold an open house at Asbury United Methodist Church, 4760 Winchester Pike, on Nov. 2 from 2-5 p.m. to celebrate their 80th anniversary. Fireproof your marriage
On Nov. 1 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Madison Christian Church, 3565 Bixby Road, Groveport, will join churches throughout North America in a movement to help married couples of all ages to "fireproof" their marriages – live via satellite on Church Communication Network (CCN).

Foor Leisure Path opening

The village of Groveport will host the grand opening of the new Foor Leisure Path with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Oct. 18 at 1 p.m. at Cruiser Park (intersection of Old Hamilton Rd. & Bixby Road). The public is invited to bring their bicycle, in-line skates or jogging/walking shoes and enjoy the 1.3 mile paved leisure path.
The Foor Leisure Path connects Groveport to the Three Creeks Metro Park trail system. The path begins at the intersection of Front Street and Ebright/Corbett roads and travels north through the Elmont Place Subdivision, through Cruiser Park and crosses Bixby Road., attaching to the Blacklick Trail in the Three Creeks Metro Park system where other trails can be navigated.
