Groveport Senior Center
The Groveport Senior Center, located in the Groveport Recreation Center, 7370 Groveport Road, offers the following:
•Mondays -play bridge at 11:30 a.m. or progressive euchre at 12:30 p.m.
•Tuesdays – double deck pinochle at 12:30 p.m.
•Wednesdays – all – noon: poker, quilting; 5 p.m.: double deck pinochle; fourth Wednesday – 10 a.m. – Super Game Day.
•Thursdays – all – 9:30 a.m. – crafts; 11:45 a.m. – lunch; first Thursday, 10 a.m. – Game Day; 12:30 p.m. – hand & foot; second Thursday – 9 a.m. to noon – county nurse; 12:30 p.m. – business meeting; 1 p.m. – hand & foot; third Thursday, 12:30 p.m. – cash bingo, hand & foot following bingo; fourth Thursday, 12:30 p.m. – euchre, hand & foot.
•Fridays offer bowling at Eastland Lanes at 9 a.m. and poker at 6 p.m.
•Saturdays progressive euchre at 6 p.m.
•Sundays are to just come in and relax.

Heritage Nature Center
The following programs are offered at the Heritage Nature Center at the log house in Heritage Park on Wirt Road in Groveport. Programs are free and open to children of all ages unless otherwise specified. For information call 836-3333.
•Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. – Johnny Appleseed Day: Celebrate with history and crafts.
•Oct. 1 at 7 p.m. – Build a Birdhouse: Make homemade birdhouses and help turn your yard into a bird’s paradise. Materials provided. Bring a screwdriver.
•Oct. 4 at 10 a.m. – Apple Butter Stirrin’: Help make apple butter in large copper kettles over wood fires. Then make an apple craft or two.
•Oct. 7 at 10 a.m. – Especially for Preschoolers – Fall Colors: Listen to a story, make a craft, and walk around the Palm Pond in search of autumn’s many colors.
•Oct. 18 at noon – Track It: Study animal tracks and make plaster molds and prints to take home. Meet at Groveport Town Hall, 648 Main St.
•Oct. 25 at 7:30 p.m. – Not So Scary Movie: Bring the family to Heritage Park for a movie. Bring non-perishable food items and participate in Make A Difference Day. In case of inclement weather, meet at KidSpace, 630 Wirt Road.
•Oct. 29 at 7:30 p.m. – History Comes Alive: Learn fascinating facts and folklore from costumed docents and tour Groveport Cemetery. Refreshments provided.
Groveport Garden Club
The Groveport Garden Club meets on the first Tuesday of each month at Groveport Zion Lutheran Church, 6014 Groveport Road, Groveport. The club welcomes anyone interested in gardening. For information call Virginia Myers, 836-5456.

Shadowing Day
The second Groveport Madison/Southeastern Franklin County Chamber of Commerce "Shadowing Day," where residents and business people "shadow" a Groveport Madison educator, will be held Sept. 30 from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. beginning and ending at the Madison Township Community Center, 4575 Madison Lane (across from Groveport Madison High School).
Up to six community residents and/or chamber participants will be placed in each Groveport Madison school. The visit includes a tour of the building and a meeting with the principal. Then the participant will either spend time in a classroom or follow a staff/management team member through their normal routine.
Following the visit, participants will be asked to share their observations.
According to the Chamber, "The goal of this event is to allow those participating to get a front line view of both the challenges facing the students and staff at Groveport Madison schools and allow them to see a positive side of the district as well."

Homework Help Center
The Southeast Branch of Columbus Metropolitan Library, 3980 S. Hamilton Road, Groveport, will hold the grand opening for its new Homework Help Center on Sept. 29 at 5:30 p.m. State Rep. Larry Flowers will participate in the event, as will Patrick Losinski, executive director of Columbus Metropolitan Library. The event is open to all members of the community and free refreshments will be served.
A Homework Help Center is a designated space in the library in which students grades k-12 receive free help with homework and school projects from staff members and volunteers. The space is equipped with computers with free Internet access, local area textbooks, pencils, calculators, scissors, glue, and other school supplies for students to borrow. Antique appraisal
Bring your antiques to an "Antique Appraisal" at Groveport Town Hall, 648 Main St., on Sept. 23, from 6-8 p.m. Garth’s Auction House will appraise your antique for $5 an item. Admission is free. Register at (614) 836-3333.

Halloween celebration
The Groveport Recreation Center, 7370 Groveport Road, will host a "Halloween Celebration" on Oct. 25 from 6:30-9 p.m. for ages four and up. Cost is $8 for residents and $10 for non-residents. There will be a costume contest, pumpkin carving contest, and a talk about trick-or-treat safety. Space is limited and pre-registration is required by Oct. 22. Refreshments and snack will be provided. Bring a "pumpkin guts" scooping spoon, a bag for your seeds. A safety carving knife, pumpkin, and design will be provided. Groveport Parks and Rec fall photography contest
The Groveport Parks and Recreation Department is offering a fall photography contest for ages: 17 and under (amateur); 18-54 (amateur/professional); and 55+ (amateur professional). Entry fee is $5 (one entry per person.) Registration deadline is Oct. 15. All eligible photos will be on display at the Groveport Recreation & Senior Center through Nov. 15. e-Cycling and Recycling
Groveport Madison Schools are hosting the first annual "e-Cycling and Recycling" event on Sept. 28 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Groveport Madison High School, 4475 S. Hamilton Road. There will be a truck from Intechra to collect all kinds of electronic equipment, such as cell phones, electronic systems and games, printers, faxes, scanners and cartridges. Also, Waste Management will have a truck to deposit plastic, paper, cardboard, aluminum and metal cans. Students from the "Green Teams" will be there to help unload.
Halloween sand candles
Make a Halloween sand candle at Groveport Log House, 551 Wirt Road, on Oct. 6, at 7 p.m. Bring a baby food size jar. For kids of all ages. This event is free and participants can register by calling (614) 836-3333.
Learn how to knit
Learn how to knit on Oct. 7 at Groveport Town Hall, 648 Main St. at 7 p.m. This 2 week series will teach basic knitting and yarn is provided. Bring knitting needles, number 8 or 10 in size. Cost is $40 for residents and $43 for non-residents. Register (614) 836-3333.
Health fair
Summerville at Lakeview Assisted Living, 4000 Lakeview Crossing in Groveport, will hold a health fair on Oct. 15, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. to focus on the positive aspects of growing older, and also to inspire seniors to improve their physical, mental, social and financial health. Flu shots

Enjoy an old-fashioned evening around the campfire on Sept. 27 at 8 p.m. at Groveport’s Heritage Park, 551 Wirt Road. Naturalist Tina Dillman will provide all smore supplies and beverages. Stories and entertainment will be provided, but participants are asked to bring seating.
