Groveport Senior Center

The Groveport Senior Center, located in the Groveport Recreation Center, 7370 Groveport Road, offers the following:

•Mondays -play bridge at 11:30 a.m. or progressive euchre at 12:30 p.m.

•Tuesdays – double deck pinochle at 12:30 p.m.

•Wednesdays – all – noon: poker, quilting;  5 p.m.: double deck pinochle; fourth Wednesday – 10 a.m. – Super Game Day.

•Thursdays – all – 9:30 a.m. – crafts; 11:45 a.m. – lunch; first Thursday, 10 a.m. – Game Day; 12:30 p.m. – hand & foot; second Thursday – 9 a.m. to noon – county nurse; 12:30 p.m. – business meeting; 1 p.m. – hand & foot; third Thursday, 12:30 p.m. – cash bingo, hand & foot following bingo; fourth Thursday, 12:30 p.m. – euchre, hand & foot.

•Fridays offer bowling at Eastland Lanes at  9 a.m. and poker at 6 p.m.

•Saturdays progressive euchre at 6 p.m.

•Sundays are to just come in and relax.

Groveport Garden Club

The Groveport Garden Club meets on the first Tuesday of each month at Groveport Zion Lutheran Church, 6014 Groveport Road, Groveport. The club welcomes anyone interested in gardening. For information call Virginia Myers, 836-5456.


Photo Forum

Photo Forum is a photography group that meets the first Thursday each month at 7 p.m. at Groveport Town Hall, 648 Main St. Learn tips from other photographers, enjoy monthly lectures and photo shoots. Group open to adults and is free. Call Jennifer at (614) 836-3333.  


GMHS reunion

The Groveport Madison High School class of 1988 will hold its 20 year reunion on Sept. 6 from 6:30-11:30 p.m. at the Ramada Plaza Hotel, 4900 Sinclair Road, Columbus. For information go to www.gocruisers.org and go to "alumni."

 

Get fit

Water aerobics every Monday and Wednesday at 10 a.m. and Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the Groveport Recreation Center, 7370 Groveport Road. Work at your own pace, all are welcome.  Cost is $5/$6 per class or save money with a freedom pass purchased at the Recreation Center. Classes offered year round. Call Kathy Frank at 836-5800.


Be strong

A strength and tone class is held every Friday at 10 a.m. at the Groveport Recreation Center, 7370 Groveport Road.  Strengthen with weights,toning the core on mats and plenty of stretching. Cost is $5/$6 per class. Call Kathy Frank at 836-5800.


GM extended daycare

Groveport Madison Schools Extended Day Program is taking registration forms for its before and after school age child care program. Operating hours are 7-9:05 a.m. and 3:50-6 p.m.  For information, download a registration packet on the district’s web site:  www.gocruisers.org   or pick up forms at any of elementary building.  This program operates on a first come basis. Community sale

The village of Groveport will hold its annual "community garage sale" on Sept. 12 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sept. 13 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Residents may register for the community garage sale at a cost of $5 per household. Registrations must be received by Sept. 5. All registered households will receive a garage sale permit, sale tips, and three balloons and string to be tied to the mailbox, signifying that you are holding a garage sale. Garage sale maps, including a general list of items to be sold, will be available at the Groveport Recreation Center for $1 on Sept. 12-13.

Homeschool gym

Homeschool gym classes will be held at the Groveport Recreation Center, 7370 Groveport Road, beginning Sept. 26 at 10 a.m. Cost is $25 and covers nine weeks.  An optional open swim time will follow the classes. For ages 5-10 and 11 and up.  

The Homeschool Swim Team will begin Sept. 26 as well.  Evaluations will be held Sept. 19 at 1:30 p.m. in the recreation center’s indoor pool. Call 836-1000 for information.

Learn to sew

Groveport Town Hall, 648 Main St., will offer a sewing class on Sept. 2 and Sept. 9 at 7 p.m. Cost $20 for residents and $22 for non-residents. Bring sewing machine (or sew by hand) and clothing that needs altered. Register at (614) 836-3333.

Splat! Boom! Pow!

Groveport Town Hall, 648 Main St., will offer a drawing course that will focus on "Super Hereos" for ages 8-13 on Sept. 3, at 7 p.m. Students should bring  drawing utensil and a sketch pad or paper. Cost is $10. To register call (614) 836-3333.

   

Get healthy

Transition into a new you with healthy food and life style changes taught at this free  seminar, on Sept. 5 at 7 p.m. at Groveport Town Hall, 648 Main St. Trainer Tamika Dean will speak about eating healthy, which foods should be in your diet, and incorporating exercise into to a way of life. Browns’ tailgate party

Are you a diehard Browns fan? Then don’t miss the opening of Marty Laney’s photographic exhibit featuring the Cleveland Browns, on Sept. 5 at 7 p.m. at Groveport Town Hall, 648 Main St. The exhibit also features jerseys, collectibles and a selection of 5,000 football cards. Food will be grilled in the driveway beside Town Hall. All food and drinks provided. Inside, great Browns moments will be shown on a wide screen. Event is free and for all ages. Learn piano

Piano lessons will be offered starting Sept. 9 from 6-8 p.m. at Groveport Town Hall, 648 Main St.  Lessons are a half hour per session during this four week series. Open to ages 5 to adult. Cost is $25 per lesson. To register and schedule a lesson time between call (614) 836-3333.


Adopt-a-Family fundraiser

Groveport Madison Adopt-A-Family (GMAAF) is hosting a fundraiser golf outing and OSU tailgate dinner on Sept. 13 at The Links at Groveport Golf Course, 1005 Richardson Road. Tailgate dinner is all-you-can-eat buffet for $12.95 from 7-9 p.m. with a portion of the dinner proceeds to GMAAF.  Reservations are not necessary. Football game begins at 8 p.m. on a big screen TV.  Golf outing begins at 2:30 p.m. A team of four can play for $260 which includes dinner.  Golf teams must register by calling 836-7939.

SE Chamber is offering Entertainment Books

Rummage benefit

The Groveport Presbyterian Church, 275 College St., will hold its annual rummage sale to benefit local missions, Groveport Adopt-a-Family, and Food Pantry, on Sept. 5 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sept. 6 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Homecoming changed

According to the Groveport Madison High School Athletic Department, the date of this year’s homecoming football game has been changed to Sept. 26 vs. Newark.

Square dancing

The Friendly Ties Western Square Dance Club will offer lessons beginning Sept. 17 from 6:45-8:45 p.m. at the Whitehall Community Park, 402 N Hamilton Road. Remember POWs & MIAs

Westland High School’s Jr. Air Force ROTC will conduct a ceremony on Sept. 13 at 11 a.m. at Motts Military Museum, 5075 S. Hamilton Road in Groveport, to honor MIAs and former POWs from all wars.   Honored guests include former POWs from World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. There will also be a number of other veterans present from all branches of service. The event is sponsored by the Eddie Rickenbacker Chapter of the Air Force Association. There is no charge to attend the ceremony. Attendees wishing to tour the museum and talk to the POWs and other participants will be asked to pay normal museum admission: adults $5,   students $3, and seniors $4. GM levy meeting

There will be an organizational meeting for the Groveport Madison school levy committee on Sept. 4 from 6:30-8 p.m. in the district administrative office, 5940 Clyde Moore Drive in Groveport.  All parents and community members are invited.

Astronomy Night date change

Groveport Town Hall will offer a free "Astronomy Night" for all ages on Sept. 19 at dark  at Palm Pond in Heritage Park, 551 Wirt Road. (The event was originally scheduled for Sept. 12.) In the event of overcast or rain, a moon lecture will be presented, inside the Log House. Bring your telescope if you have one and a roasting stick to make s’mores around the campfire.  Call (614) 836-3333.
