Hometown Car Show
The Groveport Hometown Car and Motorcycle Show will be held Sept. 18 from 1-5 p.m. in the upper parking lot at the Groveport Recreation Center, 7370 Groveport Road. Registration is from noon to 1 p.m. There will be a live band and food vendors.
Cruisers on the air
The Groveport Sports Network will provide live play-by-play coverage of several Groveport Madison High School athletic contests in football, volleyball, basketball, and softball in 2016-17. Games will be broadcast in full high definition.
The links to the broadcasts are on the athletics page at gocruisers.org. Watch the games live on a computer or hand-held device. Each broadcast will be available on demand for 30 days. Broadcast coverage begins 20 minutes prior to the scheduled start time with the pre-game show.
All five football games will be broadcast live with audio only to comply with OHSAA rules regarding the broadcast of high school football. Immediately after each football contest concludes, the game will be available with video on demand.
Rick Cooper will begin his fifth season as the “Voice of the Cruisers.”

Dog Paddle Palooza
The Groveport Aquatic Center, located in Groveport Park, 7370 Groveport Road, will open its pool for dogs to splash and swim on Sept. 8 from 6-8 p.m. for its annual end of the swimming season Dog Paddle Palooza. Cost is $2 per dog. For information call (614) 836-1000.
Apple Butter Day 5K and
1 mile fun run/walk
The fourth annual Apple Butter Day 5K and 1 mile fun run/walk will be held Oct. 8 in Groveport Park, 7370 Groveport Road. The fun run/walk begins at 9 a.m. and the 5K starts at 9:30 a.m. Cost is $10 for the fun run/walk and $20 for the 5K. For information call (614) 836-1000.
Youth sewing
A free youth sewing class for ages 10-16 will be held Sept. 8 from 6:30-8 p.m. at Groveport Town Hall, 648 Main St. Learn how to sew a different project each month. Space limited. Sept. 8 project: tissue pack holder. Supplies provided. Call 614-836-3333 to register by Sept. 6.
Nature program: fishing
All ages can enjoy an hour of free fishing at Groveport’s Palm Pond, Heritage Park-Nature Center, 551 Wirt Road, on Sept. 10 from 11 a.m. to noon. Bait and poles will be available for use. Call 614-836-3333 to register by Sept. 8. Park rules and regulations apply.
Women’s Self Defense
The Groveport Recreation Center and the Groveport Police will hold a Women’s Self Defense class at the recreation center, 7370 Groveport Road, on Oct. 12 and 19 from 6-9 p.m. Participants must be at least age 14 by Oct. 12, 2016 to register.
