Groveport Senior Center

The Groveport Senior Center, located in the Groveport Recreation Center, 7370 Groveport Road, offers the following:

•Mondays -play bridge at 11:30 a.m. or progressive euchre at 12:30 p.m.

•Tuesdays – double deck pinochle at 12:30 p.m.

•Wednesdays – all – noon: poker, quilting;  5 p.m.: double deck pinochle; fourth Wednesday – 10 a.m. – Super Game Day.

•Thursdays – all – 9:30 a.m. – crafts; 11:45 a.m. – lunch; first Thursday, 10 a.m. – Game Day; 12:30 p.m. – hand & foot; second Thursday – 9 a.m. to noon – county nurse; 12:30 p.m. – business meeting; 1 p.m. – hand & foot; third Thursday, 12:30 p.m. – cash bingo, hand & foot following bingo; fourth Thursday, 12:30 p.m. – euchre, hand & foot.

•Fridays offer bowling at Eastland Lanes at  9 a.m. and poker at 6 p.m.

•Saturdays progressive euchre at 6 p.m.

•Sundays are to just come in and relax.

Heritage Nature Center

The following programs are offered at the Heritage Nature Center at the log house in Heritage Park on Wirt Road in Groveport. Programs are free and open to children of all ages unless otherwise specified. For information call 836-3333.  

•Aug. 28 at 7 p.m. – "Pizza Party." Enjoy the bounty from the pizza garden at KidSpace. Make and enjoy pizzas. Meet at KidSpace at Wirt Road and Cherry Street.

•Aug. 30 at 10 a.m. – "Summer at Palm Pond." Use nets and viewers to explore the pond.

Groveport Garden Club

The Groveport Garden Club meets on the first Tuesday of each month at Groveport Zion Lutheran Church, 6014 Groveport Road, Groveport. The club welcomes anyone interested in gardening. For information call Virginia Myers, 836-5456.

Photo Forum

Photo Forum is a photography group that meets the first Thursday each month at 7 p.m. at Groveport Town Hall, 648 Main St. Learn tips from other photographers, enjoy monthly lectures and photo shoots. Group open to adults and is free. Call Jennifer at (614) 836-3333.  

Groveport Farmers Market

Groveport Farmers’ Market will run every Thursday through August, from 5-7 p.m. in its new location on the front lawn of Groveport Elementary School.

GMHS reunion

The Groveport Madison High School class of 1988 will hold its 20 year reunion on Sept. 6 from 6:30-11:30 p.m. at the Ramada Plaza Hotel, 4900 Sinclair Road, Columbus. For information go to www.gocruisers.org and go to "alumni."

 

Get fit

Water aerobics every Monday and Wednesday at 10 a.m. and Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the Groveport Recreation Center, 7370 Groveport Road. Work at your own pace, all are welcome.  Cost is $5/$6 per class or save money with a freedom pass purchased at the Recreation Center. Classes offered year round. Call Kathy Frank at 836-5800.

Be strong

A strength and tone class is held every Friday at 10 a.m. at the Groveport Recreation Center, 7370 Groveport Road.  Strengthen with weights,toning the core on mats and plenty of stretching. Cost is $5/$6 per class. Call Kathy Frank at 836-5800.

Movies in the park

The village of Groveport will present free summer movies in Heritage Park on Wirt Road at dark every  Saturday this summer. The  film schedule is as follows: Aug. 30 – "High School Musical 2." Call (614) 836-3333.

Donate school supplies

The village of Groveport is accepting donations to assist needy Groveport Madison students with school supplies for the coming year. Most needed items include 24 and 48 count crayons, glue sticks & bottles, scissors, No. 2 pencils, pens, loose leaf paper, pocket folders, markers and backpacks. Donations may be dropped off at Groveport Town Hall, 648 Main St. and Groveport Municipal Building, 655 Blacklick St.  Call Chelle Coleman at 836-3333 for information.

School supplies sought

The Father’s House, Church of The Living God International, 344 Hosack Street near Groveport Road and Parsons Avenue, is in need of backpacks and school supply donations. Members of the church will distribute back packs with school supplies and host a community wide carnival on Aug. 30 from 2-6 p.m. for impoverished residents who are in need of assistance for the coming school year. GMHS class of 1998

The Groveport Madison High School class of 1998 will hold its 10 year reunion at 11 a.m. on Aug. 30 at Brobst Park in Madison Township for family and 9 p.m. at the Lodge Bar on Aug. 30. GM extended daycare

Groveport Madison Schools Extended Day Program is taking registration forms for its before and after school age child care program. Operating hours are 7-9:05 a.m. and 3:50-6 p.m.  For information, download a registration packet on the district’s web site:  www.gocruisers.org   or pick up forms at any of elementary building.  This program operates on a first come basis. Community sale

The village of Groveport will hold its annual "community garage sale" on Sept. 12 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sept. 13 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Residents may register for the community garage sale at a cost of $5 per household. Registrations must be received by Sept. 5. All registered households will receive a garage sale permit, sale tips, and three balloons and string to be tied to the mailbox, signifying that you are holding a garage sale. Garage sale maps, including a general list of items to be sold, will be available at the Groveport Recreation Center for $1 on Sept. 12-13.

SE Republicans to meet

Homeschool gym

Homeschool gym classes will be held at the Groveport Recreation Center, 7370 Groveport Road, beginning Sept. 26 at 10 a.m. Cost is $25 and covers nine weeks.  An optional open swim time will follow the classes. For ages 5-10 and 11 and up.  

The Homeschool Swim Team will begin Sept. 26 as well.  Evaluations will be held Sept. 19 at 1:30 p.m. in the recreation center’s indoor pool. Call 836-1000 for information.


Christensens to perform

Erik and Terri Christensen will give a "farewell concert" of the "Music of Broadway" at Summerville at Lakeview 4000 Lakeview Crossing in Groveport on Aug. 31 at 3 p.m. Erik will has signed with the Penny Leudtke Agency in New York City and will move to New York on Sept. 3.  The community is invited to this free concert. Learn to sew

Groveport Town Hall, 648 Main St., will offer a sewing class on Sept. 2 and Sept. 9 at 7 p.m. Cost $20 for residents and $22 for non-residents. Bring sewing machine (or sew by hand) and clothing that needs altered. Register at (614) 836-3333.

Splat! Boom! Pow!

Groveport Town Hall, 648 Main St., will offer a drawing course that will focus on "Super Hereos" for ages 8-13 on Sept. 3, at 7 p.m. Students should bring  drawing utensil and a sketch pad or paper. Cost is $10. To register call (614) 836-3333.

   

Get healthy

Transition into a new you with healthy food and life style changes taught at this free  seminar, on Sept. 5 at 7 p.m. at Groveport Town Hall, 648 Main St. Trainer Tamika Dean will speak about eating healthy, which foods should be in your diet, and incorporating exercise into to a way of life. Browns’ tailgate party

Are you a diehard Browns fan? Then don’t miss the opening of Marty Laney’s photographic exhibit featuring the Cleveland Browns, on Sept. 5 at 7 p.m. at Groveport Town Hall, 648 Main St. The exhibit also features jerseys, collectibles and a selection of 5,000 football cards. Food will be grilled in the driveway beside Town Hall. All food and drinks provided. Inside, great Browns moments will be shown on a wide screen. Event is free and for all ages. Learn piano

Piano lessons will be offered starting Sept. 9 from 6-8 p.m. at Groveport Town Hall, 648 Main St.  Lessons are a half hour per session during this four week series. Open to ages 5 to adult. Cost is $25 per lesson. To register and schedule a lesson time between call (614) 836-3333.

Correction

In the photo "Lifeguards take the state title," published in the Aug. 18 Southeast Messenger, the caption incorrectly noted the date and location where the team won the title. The team placed first at the state competition held on Aug. 3 in Mason, Ohio.


Meet and greet

A "Meet, Greet & Network" will be held Aug. 27 from 7:30-9 a.m. at Go Groveport at 607 Main St. in Groveport. The event is open to the entire community to come meet new folks and your neighbors. Light continental breakfast provided. For information call 836-7939.

Adopt-a-Family fundraiser

Groveport Madison Adopt-A-Family (GMAAF) is hosting a fundraiser golf outing and OSU tailgate dinner on Sept. 13 at The Links at Groveport Golf Course, 1005 Richardson Road. Tailgate dinner is all-you-can-eat buffet for $12.95 from 7-9 p.m. with a portion of the dinner proceeds to GMAAF.  Reservations are not necessary. Football game begins at 8 p.m. on a big screen TV.  Golf outing begins at 2:30 p.m. A team of four can play for $260 which includes dinner.  Golf teams must register by calling 836-7939.
