Groveport Senior Center

The Groveport Senior Center, located in the Groveport Recreation Center, 7370 Groveport Road, offers the following:

•Mondays -play bridge at 11:30 a.m. or progressive euchre at 12:30 p.m.

•Tuesdays – double deck pinochle at 12:30 p.m.

•Wednesdays – all – noon: poker, quilting;  5 p.m.: double deck pinochle; fourth Wednesday – 10 a.m. – Super Game Day.

•Thursdays – all – 9:30 a.m. – crafts; 11:45 a.m. – lunch; first Thursday, 10 a.m. – Game Day; 12:30 p.m. – hand & foot; second Thursday – 9 a.m. to noon – county nurse; 12:30 p.m. – business meeting; 1 p.m. – hand & foot; third Thursday, 12:30 p.m. – cash bingo, hand & foot following bingo; fourth Thursday, 12:30 p.m. – euchre, hand & foot.

•Fridays offer bowling at Eastland Lanes at  9 a.m. and poker at 6 p.m.

•Saturdays progressive euchre at 6 p.m.

•Sundays are to just come in and relax.

Heritage Nature Center

The following programs are offered at the Heritage Nature Center at the log house in Heritage Park on Wirt Road in Groveport. Programs are free and open to children of all ages unless otherwise specified. For information call 836-3333.  

•Aug. 21 at 2 p.m. – "Butterfly Flutter." Learn about butterflies and try to catch some to take a closer look.

•Aug. 21 at 7 p.m. – "Ice Cream Social." Make ice cream and enjoy old fashion sundaes.

•Aug. 22 from 7 p.m. to Aug. 23 at noon – "Community Camp Out." Pitch your tent, bring your gear and overnight with the naturalist. Evening snacks provided. Reservations (614) 836-3333.

•Aug. 28 at 7 p.m. – "Pizza Party." Enjoy the bounty from the pizza garden at KidSpace. Make and enjoy pizzas. Meet at KidSpace at Wirt Road and Cherry Street.

•Aug. 30 at 10 a.m. – "Summer at Palm Pond." Use nets and viewers to explore the pond.

Groveport Garden Club

The Groveport Garden Club meets on the first Tuesday of each month at Groveport Zion Lutheran Church, 6014 Groveport Road, Groveport. The club welcomes anyone interested in gardening. For information call Virginia Myers, 836-5456.

Photo Forum

Photo Forum is a photography group that meets the first Thursday each month at 7 p.m. at Groveport Town Hall, 648 Main St. Learn tips from other photographers, enjoy monthly lectures and photo shoots. Group open to adults and is free. Call Jennifer at (614) 836-3333.  

Groveport Farmers Market

Groveport Farmers’ Market will run every Thursday through August, from 5-7 p.m. in its new location on the front lawn of Groveport Elementary School.

Music in the Park

The village of Groveport will hold its free annual "Music in the Park" summer concert series at 7 p.m. in Heritage Park on Wirt Road on the following dates (rain location: Groveport Town Hall, 648 Main St.):

GMHS reunion

The Groveport Madison High School class of 1988 will hold its 20 year reunion on Sept. 6 from 6:30-11:30 p.m. at the Ramada Plaza Hotel, 4900 Sinclair Road, Columbus. For information go to and go to "alumni."


Get fit

Water aerobics every Monday and Wednesday at 10 a.m. and Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the Groveport Recreation Center, 7370 Groveport Road. Work at your own pace, all are welcome.  Cost is $5/$6 per class or save money with a freedom pass purchased at the Recreation Center. Classes offered year round. Call Kathy Frank at 836-5800.

Be strong

A strength and tone class is held every Friday at 10 a.m. at the Groveport Recreation Center, 7370 Groveport Road.  Strengthen with weights,toning the core on mats and plenty of stretching. Cost is $5/$6 per class. Call Kathy Frank at 836-5800.

Cruisers at Crew Stadium

On Aug. 22, the Groveport Madison High School football game against Worthington Kilbourne will be held at Crew Stadium in Columbus at 7:30 p.m. Tickets will be $8 for adults and $5 for students.  Parking is $5. Tickets will be available on Ticketmaster and will be available at game time. Also the Groveport Madison High School Athletic Department, 4475 S. Hamilton Road in Groveport, will sell tickets at the following times: 8- 11 a.m. and 1–3 p.m. For information call (614) 836-4968.

Movies in the park

The village of Groveport will present free summer movies in Heritage Park on Wirt Road at dark every  Saturday this summer. The  film schedule is as follows: Aug. 23 – "Enchanted"; and Aug. 30 – "High School Musical 2." Call (614) 836-3333.

Donate school supplies

The village of Groveport is accepting donations to assist needy Groveport Madison students with school supplies for the coming year. Most needed items include 24 and 48 count crayons, glue sticks & bottles, scissors, No. 2 pencils, pens, loose leaf paper, pocket folders, markers and backpacks. School supplies sought

The Father’s House, Church of The Living God International, 344 Hosack Street near Groveport Road and Parsons Avenue, is in need of backpacks and school supply donations. Members of the church will distribute back packs with school supplies and host a community wide carnival on Aug. 30 from 2-6 p.m. for impoverished residents who are in need of assistance for the coming school year. Cartooning class

Want to learn how to draw comics? This class features drawing cartoons and super heroes on Aug. 18 at 7 p.m. at Groveport Town Hall, 648 Main St. For ages seven and up. Bring a sketch pad and drawing tools. Cost is $10. Register at 836-3333.


Vimala Handwriting

Learn about Vimala Handwriting on Aug. 19 at 7 p.m. at Groveport Town Hall, 648 Main St.   Hand writing analyst Roxie Ball will teach this seminar that introduces the "Vimala Alphabet" and how it can help you achieve your true potential. Cost is $10. Register at (614) 836-3333.

GM extended daycare

Groveport Madison Schools Extended Day Program is taking registration forms for its before and after school age child care program. Slate painting

Learn to paint a Lake Erie lighthouse onto slate at Groveport Town Hall, 648 Main St., on Aug. 20 at 7 p.m.  This two week series cost $20 for residents or $22 for non-residents, and slate is provided.  Call for supply list, at (614) 836-3333.

Community sale

The village of Groveport will hold its annual "community garage sale" on Sept. 12 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sept. 13 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Residents may register for the community garage sale at a cost of $5 per household. Registrations must be received by Sept. 5. All registered households will receive a garage sale permit, sale tips, and three balloons and string to be tied to the mailbox, signifying that you are holding a garage sale. Garage sale maps, including a general list of items to be sold, will be available at the Groveport Recreation Center for $1 on Sept. 12-13.

Alum Creek/Rohr Road

A public meeting to discuss the proposed improvement of the Alum Creek Drive and Rohr Road intersection will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Aug. 18 at the Hamilton Township Community Center, 6400 Lockbourne Road. The meeting will be an "open house" format with no formal presentations. Engineers representing Franklin County will be present to discuss the project. According to Franklin County Engineer Dean Ringle, the proposed project includes the addition of two eastbound left turn landes and a southbound right turn lane. The project is scheduled for 2010.

Smithsonian exhibit

Groveport Town Hall, 648 Main St., was selected as one of the Ohio sites for the 2009 national tour of the Smithsonian Institution’s exhibit, "Between Fences." The exhibit explores how fences aided in the settlement, development, security, art, agriculture, symbolism, and industry of America.
