Groveport Senior Center
The Groveport Senior Center, located in the Groveport Recreation Center, 7370 Groveport Road, offers the following:
•Mondays -play bridge at 11:30 a.m. or progressive euchre at 12:30 p.m.
•Tuesdays – double deck pinochle at 12:30 p.m.
•Wednesdays – all – noon: poker, quilting; 5 p.m.: double deck pinochle; fourth Wednesday – 10 a.m. – Super Game Day.
•Thursdays – all – 9:30 a.m. – crafts; 11:45 a.m. – lunch; first Thursday, 10 a.m. – Game Day; 12:30 p.m. – hand & foot; second Thursday – 9 a.m. to noon – county nurse; 12:30 p.m. – business meeting; 1 p.m. – hand & foot; third Thursday, 12:30 p.m. – cash bingo, hand & foot following bingo; fourth Thursday, 12:30 p.m. – euchre, hand & foot.
•Fridays offer bowling at Eastland Lanes at 9 a.m. and poker at 6 p.m.
•Saturdays progressive euchre at 6 p.m.
•Sundays are to just come in and relax.

Heritage Nature Center
The following programs are offered at the Heritage Nature Center at the log house in Heritage Park on Wirt Road in Groveport. Programs are free and open to children of all ages unless otherwise specified. For information call 836-3333.
•July 11 at dusk – "Firefly Campfire." Learn about fireflies and enjoy a campfire. Bring a container to catch and release fireflies, grillables and something to sit on.
•July 12 at 10 a.m. – "Brown Bag Day." Celebrate the 1879 patent of the paper bag machine and make crafts from brown bags
•July 16 at 7 p.m. – "Tie Dye T-Shirts." Bring a white t-shirt.
•July 19 at 11 a.m. – "Zoo at the Park." Meet animals from the Columbus Zoo.
•July 24 at 11 a.m. – "Preschoolers at the Park – Butterflies are Free." Learn about butterflies.
•July 26 at 10 a.m. – "Beat the Heat." A morning of summer soaker games and crafts – come prepared to get wet.
•July 28 at 7 p.m. – "Sidewalk Chalk Night." Bring your imaginations and artistic skills, fun for kids of all ages.
Groveport Garden Club
The Groveport Garden Club meets on the first Tuesday of each month at Groveport Zion Lutheran Church, 6014 Groveport Road, Groveport. The club welcomes anyone interested in gardening. For information call Virginia Myers, 836-5456.
Photo Forum
Photo Forum is a photography group that meets the first Thursday each month at 7 p.m. at Groveport Town Hall, 648 Main St. Learn tips from other photographers, enjoy monthly lectures and photo shoots. Group open to adults and is free. Call Jennifer at (614) 836-3333.
Groveport Farmers Market
Groveport Farmers’ Market will run every Thursday through August, from 5-7 p.m. in its new location on the front lawn of Groveport Elementary School.
GMHS class of 1978
The Groveport Madison High School class of 1978 will hold its 30 year reunion on July 26 from 6:30 p.m. until midnight at the Berwick Manor. Other graduating classes or former classmates are also welcome. Addresses of 1978 classmates are needed. GMHS reunion

Theater classes
Theater classes for ages 9-15 will be held starting July 7 at Groveport Town Hall, 648 Main St. Instructor Sharon Reeb will offer classes for kids every Monday and Wednesday evenings, with performance Aug. 1, 2, and 3. Book exchange
Girl Scout Troop 1937 will host a book exchange for kids pre-school age to sixth grade on July 12 from 11-3 p.m. at Groveport Town Hall, 648 Main St. Bring a book and get a book or just peruse the stacks of books for reading treasures. While your there, be sure and grab a sloppy joe sandwich or soda for a $1, with all proceeds going to Capital Area Humane Society. Participants may donate books that day or the week before, as well. Sand candles
Kids of all ages can make summer sand candles, on July 1 at 7 p.m. at the Groveport log house in Heritage Park, 551 Wirt Road. Participants need to bring a baby-food sized jar to be fill with colored sand and then topped off with wax and wick. This event is free. To register call (614) 836-3333.
Get fit
Water aerobics every Monday and Wednesday at 10 a.m. and Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the Groveport Recreation Center, 7370 Groveport Road. Work at your own pace, all are welcome. Cost is $5/$6 per class or save money with a freedom pass purchased at the Recreation Center. Classes offered year round. Call Kathy Frank at 836-5800.
Human Needs book sale
The Center for Groveport Madison Human Needs will host a used book sale on July 4 in front of the Bierberg Mercantile at 607 Main St., Groveport. Gently used books of all kinds are needed to help raise money for the human needs in the community. Books may be dropped off at the following locations in Groveport: Bierberg Mercantile, 607 Main St.; Groveport Town Hall, 648 Main St.; Huntington Bank, 556 Main St.; or Fifth-Third Bank, 6031 Groveport Road. Cornhole tournament
The Groveport Parks and Recreation Department will hold its second annual cornhole tournament on July 4 at 3:30 p.m. across from the log house on Wirt Road. Registrations are being accepted through June 26 at the Groveport Recreation Center. (On site registration will not be accepted.) Cost is $10 for a two person team. Age groups: age 17 and under; age 18 and up. For information call 836-1000.
Merion Garden Tour
The Merion Village Association presents its ninth annual Merion Village Garden Tour from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m on July 6.
A collection of 10 of the finest gardens in Merion Village will be featured, ranging from larger, more expansive gardens to smaller, more private settings.
Since it’s inception in 1999, the Merion Village Garden Tour remains free to the public. Tour maps will be available at the Merion Village Information Center 1330 S. Fourth St., Columbus, and also available for download from www.merionvillage.com
Proceeds benefit the Merion Village Association, The Southwood Elementary Parent-Teachers Organization, and the Urban Achievers 4H Group.
Free lunch program
Groveport Madison Local Schools, in partnership with the Groveport Madison Human Needs Council, is providing free lunches for eligible disadvantaged children ages 1-18 Monday through Friday through Aug. 15 (except for July 4). Children currently enrolled in Groveport Madison’s free or reduced breakfast/lunch program are eligible. The free lunch program started at Sedalia Elementary, 5400 Sedalia Drive, on June 16 and will move to Middle School North, 5474 Sedalia Drive, on July 1. Lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the school cafeteria.
Sewing classes
Sewing classes begin July 8 at 7 p.m. at Groveport Town Hall, 648 Main St. Cost is $45 for residents and $50 for non-residents. Bring sewing machine to this four week series; material will be bought during field trip to Jo Anne Fabrics. Register at 836-3333.
Be strong
A strength and tone class is held every Friday at 10 a.m. at the Groveport Recreation Center, 7370 Groveport Road. Strengthen with weights,toning the core on mats and plenty of stretching. Cost is $5/$6 per class. Call Kathy Frank at 836-5800.
Cruisers at Crew Stadium
On Aug. 22, the Groveport Madison High School football game against Worthington Kilbourne will be held at Crew Stadium in Columbus at 7:30 p.m. Tickets will be $8 for adults and $5 for students. Parking is $5. Presale tickets are available at Groveport Madison High School in the athletic department.
Recess at the Rec
The Groveport Recreation Center, 7370 Groveport Road is offering a youth fitness course, Recess at the Rec, that is designed to show children that exercise is not just about jumping on a piece of expensive equipment to reap the benefits of health. Exercise should be introduced to children as an enjoyable experience that keeps mind and body strong and healthy. The village of Groveport will present free summer movies in Heritage Park on Wirt Road at 7 p.m. every Saturday this summer.
