Groveport Senior Center
The Groveport Senior Center, located in the Groveport Recreation Center, 7370 Groveport Road, offers the following:
•Mondays -play bridge at 11:30 a.m. or progressive euchre at 12:30 p.m.
•Tuesdays – double deck pinochle at 12:30 p.m.
•Wednesdays – all – noon: poker, quilting; 5 p.m.: double deck pinochle; fourth Wednesday – 10 a.m. – Super Game Day.
•Thursdays – all – 9:30 a.m. – crafts; 11:45 a.m. – lunch; first Thursday, 10 a.m. – Game Day; 12:30 p.m. – hand & foot; second Thursday – 9 a.m. to noon – county nurse; 12:30 p.m. – business meeting; 1 p.m. – hand & foot; third Thursday, 12:30 p.m. – cash bingo, hand & foot following bingo; fourth Thursday, 12:30 p.m. – euchre, hand & foot.
•Fridays offer bowling at Eastland Lanes at 9 a.m. and poker at 6 p.m.
•Saturdays progressive euchre at 6 p.m.
•Sundays are to just come in and relax.

Heritage Nature Center
The following programs are offered at the Heritage Nature Center at the log house in Heritage Park on Wirt Road in Groveport. Programs are free and open to children of all ages unless otherwise specified. For information call 836-3333.
•May 8 at 7 p.m. – "Fishy Fun." Try your hand at fishing and get a few tips from the park staff. Limited poles and bait will be provided. For ages 6-15.
•May 10 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. – "Keep Groveport Beautiful Day." Help clean up the village and beautify the park by planting flowers and picking up litter. Demonstrations and crafts. Free lunch. Register at 836-3333
•May 12 at 7 p.m. – "Have You Eaten Your Rocks Today?" Join Mr. Schumacher from the Department of Geological Survey for a program about rocks in our everyday life. This program will be held at Groveport Town Hall, 648 Main St.
•May 13 at 7 p.m. – "Froggy Fun." Find out about frogs living in the area as we search for them and listen to their mating songs.
•May 18 at 2 p.m. – "Mastodons Rule." Travel through time and visit a mastodon skeleton unearthed from a dig in Ohio. Meet Dr. Gnidovec from the OSU Orton Geological Museum. Held at Groveport Town Hall, 648 Main St.
•May 22 at 7 p.m. – "Rocks Rule!" Meet at Groveport Town Hall, 648 Main St. for crafts, experiments and demonstrations.
•May 29 at 7 p.m. – "Coal: Old Plants in our Modern World." Join Mike Dillman from ODNR Mineral Resource Management for a program on coal mining in Ohio. Groveport Town Hall, 648 Main St.
•May 31 at 8:30 p.m. – "S’more Campfire Kids." Bring your family and join us at our first campfire of the season. Refreshments included.
Groveport Garden Club
The Groveport Garden Club meets on the first Tuesday of each month at Groveport Zion Lutheran Church, 6014 Groveport Road, Groveport. The club welcomes anyone interested in gardening. For information call Virginia Myers, 836-5456.
Photo Forum
Photo Forum is a newly formed photography group that meets the first Thursday of every month at 7 p.m. at Groveport Town Hall, 648 Main St. This group is for anyone who has an interest or passion for taking photos. Learn tips from other photographers, enjoy monthly lectures and photo shoots. Group open to adults and is free. Call Jennifer at (614) 836-3333.
GMHS alumni banquet
The 2007-08 Groveport Madison High School Alumni Committee has been meeting and planning the 115th Alumni Banquet to be held May 17 at the high school at 5 p.m. Reservations letters are being prepared. Set aside that date for a great time of renewing friendships. The classes of 1958 and 1983 will be honored.
Glendening spring carnival
Glendening PTO will hold its annual "Spring Carnival" at Glendening Elementary on May 17 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be food, games and prizes. The rides will shut down at 2 p.m. and there will be a raffle from 2-3 p.m.
Looking for performers
Event coordinator Chelle Coleman is now booking singers, dancers, magicians, and others of all ages are being sought to perform for 15 minutes prior to each of the village of Groveport’s outdoor concerts this summer. Non-profit groups seeking to raise funds for their organizations are also being sought to provide concessions during the concerts. For information contact Coleman at (614) 836-3333.
Groveport Arts Festival
The Groveport Arts Festival will be held May 24 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. along the treelined streets of historic downtown Groveport. The festival is a juried event that will highlight fine art and fine craft exhibitors from all over Ohio. Kim Pensyl and the Smooth Jazz Trio will perform from 3-5 p.m. The festival will also feature a wine garden and a kids’ area. For information go to groveportsartsfestival.org.
Connect with Groveport
Connect with Groveport returns May 2 from 4-7 p.m. at the Groveport Recreation Center 7370 Groveport Road. The public is invited to visit with more than 50 vendors who will be on hand to showcase their spring/summer activities and/or product lines.
Groveport Farmers Market
Groveport Farmers’ Market begins June 5 and will run every Thursday through August, from 5-7 p.m. in its new location on the front lawn of Groveport Elementary School.
Plant auction
The Groveport Garden Club’s annual plant auction will be held at Groveport Zion Lutheran Church, 6014 Groveport Road in Groveport, on May 6 beginning at 6 p.m. with a complementary buffet. Auction starts at 6:30 p.m. Free admission.
Hamilton Twp. alumni

Draw dinosaurs
Kids ages 7-13 can learn "How to Draw Dinosaurs" on May 5 at 7 p.m. at Groveport Town Hall, 648 Main St. Register at (614) 836-3333.
Slate painting class
Slate painting classes will be offered May 13th at 7 p.m. at Groveport Town Hall, 648 Main St. Make an "Americana Flag Slate" for your front porch at this class for adults. Cost is $22 for residents and $25 for non-residents. Slate provided. Register at (614) 836-3333.
GMHS class of 1978
The Groveport Madison High School class of 1978 will hold its 30 year reunion on July 26 from 6:30 p.m. until midnight at the Berwick Manor. Other graduating classes or former classmates are also welcome. Addresses of 1978 classmates are needed. Groveport pool to open
The Groveport Aquatic Center will open May 24. The facility features two giant water slides, zero depth entry pool, 450 foot lazy river, in water playground, tots sprayground, lap pool, diving boards, sun umbrellas, party packages and more. McCollum on fair board
Life Scout Kevin McCollum of Madison Township has been selected as the Ohio State Fair Junior Fair Board representative for the Boy Scouts of America. Kevin will serve as a JFB member for the 2008 and 2009 fairs.
Only one Scout from the State of Ohio is selected each year. Two Scouts serve overlapping two-year terms. McCollum joins representatives from 16 youth organizations who make up the Junior Fair Board. He will live on the Fairgrounds during his term and will represent not only his own unit, Troop 622, but also the Simon Kenton Council and National Council, BSA.
SE Republicans to meet
The Southeast Franklin County Republican Club will meet May 27 at the Madison Township Community Center at 7 p.m.
