CW Sertoma meets
Canal Winchester Sertoma Club meets at 6:30 p.m. on the first and third Wednesdays of each month at Donatos Pizza, 6310 Prentiss School Drive, Canal Winchester. Sertoma’s main sponsorship focus is speech and hearing. Sertoma exists for the noble purpose of "Service to Mankind" by communication of thoughts, ideas and concepts to accelerate human progress in health, education, freedom and democracy. At Wagnalls Memorial
The following activities will be held at The Wagnalls Memorial Foundation, 150 E. Columbus St., Lithopolis (for information visit www.wagnalls.org or call (614) 837-4765):
•Belly Dancing Exercise Class Mondays 10-11:30 a.m. and 5:30-7 p.m. $7 each class.
•Art Classes with Teresa Satola, $10 per class or paid monthly.   For information, or to register for either class, call 837-4765, ext 127. Adult class is 6-8 p.m. on Wednesdays. Juvenile class (ages 8-13) is 4-6 p.m. on Wednesdays.
•Gentle Yoga with Gail Sky on Oct. 18, and 25 and Nov. 1, 8, 15, and 22 from 9-10:30 a.m. Cost is $10 each class.
•Kid’s Club for grades 2-5 on Oct. 18 at 12:45 p.m.
•Computer Classes Oct. 14, and 21 and Oct. 9, 16, and 23. Cost is $30 for three 1.5 hour training sessions. Register and pre-pay at circulation desk. 
•Wagnalls Family Theatre Educational Series Acting Classes on Saturdays to Nov. 15.

CW’s Farmer’s Market

Main Street Canal Winchester will sponsor a Farmer’s Market each Saturday through Oct. 18 in historic downtown Canal Winchester from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Vendors will offer fresh produce, flowers, hand made crafts, candy, cookies, and more. SEFC membership rates

The Southeastern Franklin County Chamber of Commerce (SEFC) has announced a special membership rate for businesses interested in joining the Chamber for the first time.
Now through Nov. 30, businesses may take advantage of the special rate, based on the number of full time employees: 49 or below – $125; 50 – 99 full time employees – $240 and over 300 full time employees $360. 
This rate will allow  membership for the remainder of 2008 and the entire 2009 calendar year. Membership in the Chamber entitles participation in programs that lower worker’s compensation rate and health care insurance. Free quotes are available for both prior to joining the Chamber; however membership is required to receive the discount.
Monthly luncheons, business and community events, along with advertising and sponsorship specials are also available for members only. Join our almost 200 members in the Southeast corner of Franklin County to participate in year round networking opportunities.

AM VETS Post 300 is offering its assistance to returning veterans for the Iraq and Afghanistan war. Beggars’ Night in CW

Beggar’s Night trick or treat in Canal Winchester will be held Oct. 31 from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
The local VFW will host a free community Halloween party immediately following trick-or-treat at 7:30 p.m. at the Frances Stuebe Community Center, 22 S. Trine St. Canal Winchester Human Services will support the VFW’s party by sponsoring entertainment.
If you wish to have trick-or-treaters, turn on a porch light to let them know they are welcome. Children should only visit houses with an outside light on. Do not let children eat candy until they return home. All candy should be inspected before eating and anything that is open or that looks suspicious should be thrown out.
All children should be accompanied by an adult while trick-or-treating. Remind children to walk instead of run and to look both ways before crossing the street. Have children wear reflective costumes or light sticks to make them more visible to motorists. If you will be driving during or shortly before or after trick-or-treat hours, make sure to watch for children crossing the street.

Breast cancer awareness
Studio Fusion, 1 S. High St., Canal Winchester, is celebrating Breast Cancer Awareness Month by providing breast self exam handouts, pink ribbons, and information about breast cancer research. Studio Fusion is a "Locks of Love" salon providing free haircuts and styles with any donation of hair 10 inches or longer to benefit children with hair loss. Also, a donation box for cancer research will be located in the salon and 10 percent of all retail during October will be donated to the Stephanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research. Oil painting class
An oil painting class will be held Nov. 8 from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. at Gender Road Christian Church, 5336 Gender Road, Canal Winchester. Learn how to paint with oils in this one day seminar. CW Garden Club

The Canal Winchester Garden Club will meet Oct. 14 at 7 p.m. in the Canal Winchester Senior Center, 22 S. Trine St. The topic will be chrysanthemums.

Flu shots
The Franklin County Board of Health is offering flu shots for $25 per shot for adults age 18 and up from 1-3 p.m. at the following locations:
•Obetz Community/Senior Center, 1611 Chillicothe St., Obetz, on Oct. 28.
•Canal Winchester Community/Senior Center, 22 S. Trine St., Canal Winchester, on Nov. 4.
•Groveport Senior Center, 7370 Groveport Road, Groveport, on Nov. 18.

•A Canal Winchester school levy "Town Hall" meeting with Parents for Progress members, Canal Winchester school board, and Superintendent Dr. Kim Miller-Smith will be held Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. at the education center, 100 Washington St.
•Coffee Talk with Parents for Progress members and Dr. Miller-Smith will be held at Harvest Moon coffee shop in Canal Winchester on Oct 19 at 7 p.m.

Meet the artist in CW

Elaine Thomas, designer of Demdaco’s "Your Merry Wishes" figurines will sign figurines at the Canal Winchester Harvest Craft Fair on Oct. 18 from 12:30-2 p.m. at Ferne’s Attic, 24 N. High St., Canal Winchester. For information call 833-3758.

Chicken noodle dinner
St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church will hold its 22nd annual homemade chicken noodle dinner on Nov. 1 from 4:30-7:30 p.m. at Wagnalls Memorial in Lithopolis. Cost is adults $7; children 3-11 $3; under age 3 are free. Take-out available. Ten percent of proceeds will benefit LSS Food Pantry in Lancaster.
