Applications sought for vacant seat on the school board

There is a vacancy on the South-Western City School District Board of Education due to the death of board member Robert Ragland, Sr.

The board must name his replacement within 30 days. The newly-appointed school board member will serve until Dec. 31, 2023.

Ragland, who had served on the board of education since 2016, passed away on Dec. 23.

School board president Cathy Johnson said, “Robert has been a strong advocate, committed volunteer, and champion for the students of the South-Western City School District. His leadership has helped strengthen our schools both academically and financially. We cannot thank him enough for his many years of service to our students, families, and schools.”

Citizens interested in applying for the appointment to the vacant position should send a resume and cover letter to the attention of school board president Cathy Johnson, 3805 Marlane Drive, Grove City, Ohio 43123 or The information must be received no later than Jan. 3, 2022 at 4 p.m. for consideration.

Any individual wishing to fill the vacated seat on the school board must be at least 18 years of age, a resident of South-Western City School District, and a registered voter.

Johnson said the board will review all applications and plans to vote on a replacement at a special meeting the week of Jan. 10, 2022.
