The village of West Jefferson is considering another annexation request.

At their July 5 meeting, council members voted to enter into a pre-annexation request from All Star Limited Partnership for 130 acres along U.S. Route 40 in Jefferson and Deercreek townships.

While there are no plans for development at this time, All Star would like to see the property developed for commercial, industrial, warehousing, retail, residential, mixed or other economically viable uses.

All Star is seeking village services—including water, sewer, fire and police protection—to support light manufacturing, commercial, retail, large distribution facilities, or a mix of other market-driven future uses.

Council also approved a resolution to apply for a loan from the Ohio Water Development Authority to help with the costs of improving the water system.

In other action, council appropriated $3,769 to purchase a replacement radio for a police department. One of the department’s radios came up missing. Finance Director Debbie DiLeo said she didn’t know if it was lost or stolen. Chief Terry Ward filed a claim and received a check for $2,769 from the insurance company, the cost of replacing the radio minus the $1,000 deductible.

The village plans to erect an electronic sign on the Huntington Bank property, across Main Street from the administration building. The sign will be used advertise village events. Donations, primarily from area businesses, are covering $23,665 of the cost. The village appropriated $6,006 to finish the project.

The Madison County Department of Family and Children donated $1,000 for the village’s summer Lunch & Learn program. Target Corp. donated $2,000 for the village’s National Night Out activities, set for Aug.1.
