The London Rotary Club is pleased to honor senior Amy Burchett as Madison-Plains High School’s March Student of the Month.

Students of the month are selected by school administrators based on their academic and extracurricular achievement and positive character.

Amy has a 4.079 grade point average and is ranked fifth in her class. Her favorite courses are CCP Western Civilization and CCP Child Development.

While in high school, Amy has built an impressive record of accomplishment. She has been on the soccer team for three years and the cross country team for four years, serving as captain her senior year. She has run indoor track for four years and holds three school records. She also has been on the outdoor track team for four years and was the team’s top point scorer in 2021.

Amy has been involved with FFA all four years of high school. She participated on the poultry judging team for one year, the meat judging team for two years, the job interview team for one year, and the vet science team for two years. In related endeavors, she was the 2022 Madison County Fair Beef Showman of Showmen.

Amy has been a Key Club member for four years, serving as secretary her junior and senior years. She also has played in concert band for four years, jazz band for one year, and pep band for three years. She has been involved with Spanish Club for one year, Chess Club for one year, FCCLA for one year, and National Honor Society for three years, serving as treasurer her senior year.

When asked to name a Madison-Plains staff member who inspires her, Amy chose high school librarian Heidi Fletcher.

“Mrs. Fletcher is an inspiration to me because she is extremely kind and passionate when it comes to helping others,” Amy said. “She makes Madison-Plains an overall better place. It wouldn’t be the same without her. She is always thinking of others and how she can help. I genuinely look up to Mrs. Fletcher.”

About Amy, Fletcher stated, “Amy Burchett is an amazing young adult. She is a student who truly appreciates her educational experience here at Madison-Plains.

“I’ve always enjoyed working with Amy. Whether it’s community service through Key Club or teaching her about research. Amy cares about her peers, her teachers, and the Madison-Plains community. Amy is one of those students whom an educator will remember throughout their career. Amy claims I have inspired her, but she inspires me every day with her gracious smile, caring personality, and humbleness. A student like Amy is why I love my job so much. I know Amy will be successful with her plans after graduation and will make a wonderful future educator.”

After graduation, Amy plans to major in secondary education (7-12 English) and minor in history or athletic coaching at Baldwin Wallace University. She will be running cross country and track at the collegiate level, also. Amy is the daughter of Rebecca and Dave Burchett.

The London Rotary Club has a proud history dating back to 1929. It is a member of Rotary International, a volunteer organization of 1.2 million businesses and professional leaders united worldwide to provide humanitarian service and help build good will and peace.
