Alder athletes make their mark in the MOAC

In the short time Jonathan Alder has been part of the Mid Ohio Athletic Conference (MOAC), the school district’s athletic teams have made their presence known.

This fall, Alder teams were at the top of the Red Division and numerous individual athletes earned first-team all-conference honors and, in some cases, even higher accolades. These student-athletes were recognized at the Dec. 12 school board meeting.

First-team MOAC honors in cross country went to Gavin Frick, Ashlyn McDaniel, Luke Malone, and Aziza Ayoub, who was also MOAC Runner of the Year and a state qualifier.

The football team, coached by Brett Glass, won the MOAC Red Division and was in regional competition. First-team conference honors were accorded to: Trey Pugh, who was also MOAC Player of the Year and first-team Central District offense; Bryan Blacka, who was also first-team Central District offense; Jamie Dye, Austin Fooce and Casey Yutzy.

The boys’ golf team, coached by Mitch Koester, was co-champion of the MOAC Red Division. Hayden Mitchell made first-team all-conference. He and teammate Joey Petrella received honorable mention Central District.

David Lanka, who coached the boys’ soccer team to the Red Division title and into district competition was named MOAC Coach of the Year. Alex Moore and Riley Thomas were named first-team MOAC and first-team Central District, while Cameron Androw was named first-team MOAC and second-team Central District.

The girls’ soccer team, coached by Matt Evans, won the MOAC Red Division and made it to the district semifinals. Riley Gruenbaum was named first-team all-conference, MOAC Player of the Year, first-team Central District and first-team All-Ohio. Lily Hess was first-team all-conference and first-team Central District; Hannah Headlee was first-team all-conference and second-team Central District; and Sophia Thomas was first-team all-conference and third-team Central District.

Brent Fuller coached the girls’ tennis team to the MOAC Red Division championship and was named MOAC Coach of the Year. Mikayla Holland qualified for district play.

T.J. Read coached the girls’ volleyball team to the MOAC Red Division cham-pionship and into the regional tournament. Alexa Hasting was named MOAC Player of the Year, first-team all-conference and first-team Central District. First-team all-conference honors also went to Maddie Fuller and Julie Jakse. Fuller was also first-team Central District.

During the business portion of the Dec. 12 meeting, board members renewed a 12-month lease agreement with Daily Needs Assistance, which operates out of the former Plain City Elementary building. They also viewed an American Dairy Association video that features Jonathan Alder schools.
