Daily Needs Assistance (DNA) in Plain City hopes to raise $50,000 to continue its mission of ministering to the physical and spiritual needs of the community.

“We’re seeing a great increase in need now. We’re doing more benevolence than ever before,” said Tamara Reed, executive director.

Additionally, the faith-based non-profit might be relocating. DNA leases space in the former Plain City Elementary building. The Jonathan Alder Local School District is considering selling the building.

To meet the increased needs of the community and prepare for a possible move, DNA is holding a Giving Tuesday fundraiser on Oct. 27. The event offers something for everyone.

First off, there’s food. Sazon Latin Street Food will dish up chicken, beef and pork tacos with beans, rice, chips and pumpkin cookies. The cost is $20 per meal. Meals must be pre-ordered by Oct. 25. They will be served in a drive-through format at DNA from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Drive-through participants will receive a goodie bag and information about DNA’s programs and services, as well as have the opportunity to purchase DNA t-shirts or tickets for a raffle in which the prize is a car. The shirts and raffle tickets are $20 each.

DNA is raffling off this 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder GTS. Tickets are $20 each. Go for more information.

The raffle car is a 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder GTS with 89,788 miles. It is valued at $1,800. The winner will be announced at the end of the night on Facebook Live.

“We also will be presenting a short video on YouTube about what DNA is doing in the COVID landscape to strengthen families and build community,” Reed said.

The video will be available for viewing starting at 7:15 p.m. the day of the event.

Among the programs DNA offers are weekly hot breakfasts, a personal needs pantry, mentoring, Farm to Pantry, a free clinic, a transitional housing apartment, and emergency assistance.
