There’s an incurable and highly contagious condition running rampant among adoptable dogs at the Franklin County Dog Shelter (FCDS) – Buckeye fever.
Yes, even those fans of the canine persuasion awaiting adoption at the FCDS can show their team spirit leading up to the big game against that school up north.
Friends of the Shelter (FOTS), the non-profit group that raises funds to support the dogs at the FCDS, announced its limited-time football-themed Web sponsorship campaign which offers donors, dog lovers and Buckeye fans alike the chance to adorn adoptable dogs’ photos with the menacing caption “CAUTION: I eat wolverines.”
The Web sponsorship program allows interested donors to customize a dedication and place it, along with the frame, on the dog of his or her choice in exchange for a $35 donation. Classic versions of the frames are available year-round; FOTS introduces seasonal campaigns four to six times a year.
Funds raised via the Web sponsorship program are allocated – at the donor’s preference – toward the shelter’s Off-Site Infirmary Care Program (OSICP) or costs associated with Labrador-specific care.
The OSICP enables sick and injured dogs a smaller, more peaceful infirmary to recover from illness, abuse or surgery, expediting the adoption process. The Sponsor a Lab program was established as a specialized fund to provide care for labs, a breed which often tops the list of dogs most commonly found in shelters.
