Protein is the most requested item from hungry families across central and eastern Ohio but is one of the least donated, says Dave Daniel, the vice-president of operations at the Mid-Ohio Foodbank. A big dent in that gap, however, was bridged on Feb. 13 when more than 2,000 pounds of meat arrived at their facility on Brookham Drive in Grove City. The tonnage of protein, which included fresh deli meats, beef frankfurters and chicken sausages, were donated courtesy of Dietz and Watson, a premium meats and artisan cheeses company based in Philadelphia. For three years, Dietz and Watson has partnered with Giant Eagle Supermarkets to donate funds and foods to pantries and foodbanks across the country as part of their ‘Families Helping Families’ program. Here, Daniel displays some the items donated along with Michelle Denk with Dietz and Watson and Melinda Gaus, a community relations representative with Giant Eagle Supermarkets.
