Rain showers may have dampened the grounds at Westgate Park, but it could not dampen the spirits of those who came out to enjoy the third annual Westside Community Summer Bash on June 11. Hosted by the local non-profit organization A Step in the Right Direction and sponsored by the Columbus Recreation and Parks Department, the event served as a resource center that linked adults and families with health and wellness services throughout the region and also an entertainment hub for children that featured attractions such as arts and crafts tables and inflatable bounce houses. Among the most popular booths for individuals of all ages was the face painting station where artist Kiara Booker worked her magic. Here, 4-year-old Devan Dials admires the colorful watermelon slices that adorn her face.
Much to the delight of children like Jayden McDowell, the pouring rains transformed the inflatable bounce house into a slippery obstacle course. Although many tried to get up the slide ramp, few were successful.
