A Step in the Right Direction celebrates five-year anniversary with fundraiser

A Step in the Right Direction, a non-profit organization in Columbus, is hosting a five-year anniversary townhall celebration and fundraiser. The celebration will take place on Feb. 27 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Glenwood United Methodist Church, 2833 Valleyview Drive in Columbus.

Kayla Davis, executive director of A Step in the Right Direction, founded the organization in 2019 and has served more than 4,600 people since its establishment. The organization’s mission is to inspire, grow, and strengthen underserved communities in central Ohio.

The primary component of their work is their hygiene program, which provides hygiene and cleaning items to the community free of charge through household drop-offs, and mini hygiene stores at three schools on the westside. The organization hosts other partnership outreach events regularly within the community.

A Step in the Right Direction has also helped previously incarcerated individuals re-enter society with resume workshops, professional clothing giveaways, and a six-week re-entry program course.

Well-known for two large events each year, the Summer Bash and the Back-to-School Bash, these regular events have given momentum, garnered awareness, and furthered the mission of the organization tremendously. Both events offer a place for the people in the community to come together to enjoy music, free food, arts and crafts, and other activities. The Back-to-School Bash provides each child with a backpack full of school supplies.

This year A Step in the Right Direction is pausing to celebrate all of these milestones that have been successful since founding five years ago. The organization invites neighbors, community members, politicians, and leaders to come together to commemorate the achievements of the past five years in serving the Columbus area.
