EcoFest, a celebration showcasing green exhibitors, healthy food and interactive family activities to inspire the community to live healthier and preserve our environment, moves to Grove City Town Center for 2017.
On Saturday, Aug. 19 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., gather with family and friends in Grove City Town Center (Park Street and Arbutus Avenue), to experience eco-friendly products and services, as well as games and entertainment for visitors of all ages at this waste-less event.
Mount Carmel presents the family friendly Bike with Mayor Ike Bike Tour at 9 a.m. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. Neighbors are encouraged to ride their bikes to the event. Bicycle parking is available at the secure Yay Bikes! bike corral.
The Kids Zone features games throughout the day including soccer challenges with Kickmaster Footgolf, face painting by TWIG 184, DIY workshops held by Home Depot, science activities at the COSI science stations (11 a.m. to 3 p.m.); and visiting with animals from the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium (2 to 3 p.m.).
The Sustainability Zone spotlights organizations that provide environmental education such as waste control, composting and storm water conservation, rain harvesting and solar installations. Learn about pollinators and how to support these beneficial insects and plants that help the environment; and what trees to plant to contribute to a healthier community.
The Health and Wellness Zone, showcases demonstrations of various forms of fitness such as Burn With Yoga, karate, Brazilian jiu-jitsu and 9Round. Visit the stage at the farmers’ market (10 to 11:30 a.m.) and learn to make a healthy salad in a jar, with Trisha Zelenak of Trish Z Fitness.
The Art Zone, sponsored by the Grove City Arts Council, features art by artists who work with recycled materials and youth art pieces, part of the school art contest. Additional activities and displays are sponsored by Little Theater Off Broadway and paint-a-T-shirt by the Grove City Arts Council.
A variety of food and merchandise vendors sell healthy living items including homemade soaps, skin-care products, solar cooking ovens, organic composting items, environmentally friendly cleaning products, and healthy food and drinks. Purchase raffle tickets to benefit the Grove City Arts in the Park program to win an adult or children’s bicycle.
Drive an electric vehicle as Clean Fuels Ohio presents the Ride & Drive from noon to 4 p.m. Participants must be licensed drivers and at least 18 years old. Registration for the Ride & Drive is available on-site starting at 11:30 a.m. Visit the hydrogen fuel cell bus, sponsored by the Renewable Hydrogen Fuel Cell Collaborative.
Test your driving skills, simulated as under the influence, at the Grove City Division of Police driving simulator experience.
