Canal Winchester resident Lauren Fink and her daughter, Aubrey, 10, tidy up their fairy village situated in an old silver maple tree covered by ivy dating back more than 50 years. Aubrey said the tree was dying and portions of it needed to be cut down this past spring. Because she likes fairies, her mother helped her create the village, which has several themed areas including a beach, rainbow house and unicorn, a west-facing house for a fairy that controls sunsets and a door for elves who protect her fairies. “This tree was dying because of the ivy, but it now has a second life because of the ivy,” said Lauren, who, along with her daughter, are decorating their village for Halloween. The display is located near the intersection of West and Beck streets in Canal Winchester.
