Laura Harper

Long-time patron and supporter of Southwest Public Libraries Laura Harper received a mayoral proclamation from Grove City Mayor Richard “Ike” Stage on Dec. 19, at Grove City Library.

Laura Harper donated $100,000 to the library in honor of her late husband, John and his aunt Irene, who is recognized as the first SPL librarian. That donation led to the creation of Harper’s Grove.

Stage presented Harper with a proclamation declaring January to be Laura Harper Month in Grove City. He also gave her the key to the city and declared her an honorary citizen.

Harper also celebrated her 95th birthday on Dec. 19. She is president emeritus of the Friends of Southwest Public Libraries Board as well as the Grove City Cancer Thrift Shop Board. She has served in leadership roles with a number of local service organizations and clubs.
