Despite the circumstances and the protective gear, Jason Weese, the assistant principal at Westland High School, and Melvina Torbert, the coordinator of state and federal programs with the South-Western City Schools District, manage a wave and a smile at a food distribution site on March 27. The prepackaged dinners and weekend food bags were a part of a collective effort between the Mid-Ohio Foodbank, the Grove City Church of the Nazarene, Jordan’s Crossing and a number of business to offer meals to students during school closures due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Torbert said the dinner meal distribution at Westland High School will likely continue each week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays but advises parents to check the district’s website for verification and changes.
