Top students honored at graduation ceremonies

High school graduation ceremonies for the class of 2019 took place May 24-26 at area schools.

Madison-Plains

Madison-Plains Local Schools held commencement ceremonies on May 24 in the high school gym.

Of the 88 students in the class, nine graduated with honors diplomas, and 10 were members of National Honor Society.

The valedictorian is Clay Grear, who plans to major in business at Columbus State Community College. The salutatorian is Sara Hoop, who plans to attend Miami University.

The class officers include: Sierra Lapasky, president; Martina Miller, vice president; Rachel Guiette, secretary; Kloee Whitaker, treasurer; and Wyatt Morris, segreant at arms.

The class flower is the yellow rose. The class colors are green and gold. The close chose as its motto a quote from Dr. Seuss: “Be sure when you step, step with care and great tact, and remember life is a balancing act. And will you succeed? Yes! You will indeed! (98 and 3/4 percent guaranteed) Kid, you’ll move mountains.”

Shekinah Christian School

Shekinah Christian School held commencement ceremonies on May 24 at Shiloh Mennonite Church, London.

Of the 12 students in the class, 10 graduated with honors and three graduated with honors diplomas.

The valedictorians are Anthony Conte, Rebecca Grissom, Alissa Miller and Kloe Yutzy. The salutatorian is Ben Hershberger.

The class officers include Anthony Conte, president; Alissa Miller, vice president; Sierra Coblentz, secretary; and Rebecca Grissom, treasurer.

The class flower is the purple iris. The class colors are purple and yellow. The class motto is: “Behind us are memories, beside us are friends, before us are dreams that will never end.”

West Jefferson

Jefferson Local Schools held commencement ceremonies on May 25 at the high school.

Of the 82 students in the class, 19 graduated with honors diplomas, 25 were members of National Honor Society, and six were members of the Tolles Career and Technical Center Honor Society.

The valedictorians are Nathaniel Dersom and Zoe Hiss. The salutatorian is Madison Whitt. Jessica Foster won the outstanding vocational student award.

The class officers include: Joseph Thompson, president; Jillian Flowers, vice president; Macy Morris, secretary; Justice Holcomb, treasurer; Isabelle Fisher, historian, and Baylie Miller, public relations.

The class flower is the peony. The class colors are blue and white. The class song is “Five More Minutes” by Scotty McCreery. The class chose as its motto a quote from Blair Waldorf: “The thing about new beginnings is that they require something else to end.”

Southeastern

Southeastern Local Schools held commencement ceremonies on May 25 in the high school gym.

Of the 54 students, seven graduated with honors diplomas, eight were members of National Honor Society, and one achieved perfect attendance for all four years of high school.

The valedictorian is Daniel Myers. The salutatorians are Aubrie Hartman and Carolyn Mitchell. The senior citizenship award went to Charlie Bertemes and Shelby Russell. The senior cup award went to Charlie Bertemes.

The class officers include: Charlie Bertemes, president; Reed Pitstick, vice president; Aubrie Hartman, secretary; and Carolyn Mitchell, treasurer.

The class flower is the sunflower. The class colors are red, white and blue. The class song is “You’re Gonna Miss This” by Trace Adkins. The class chose as its motto, “The best class you’ve ever seen…2019.”

London

London City Schools held commencement ceremonies on May 26 in the high school gym.

Of the 146 students in the class, 18 graduated with honors, 23 were members of National Honor Society, and one was a member of the National Technical Honor Society.

The valedictorian is Amaya Siddiqi, who plans to attend the University of Cincinnati to study health sciences. The salutatorian is Jacob Broerman who plans to attend The Ohio State University to study mechanical engineering.

The class officers include: Liam Comer, president; Emma Stucke, vice president; Madison Miller, secretary; and Ashley Kaskocsak, treasurer.

The class flower is the daisy. The class colors are scarlet and silver. The class song is “I Lived” by One Republic. The class chose as its motto a quote from Stan Lee: “If you’ve got an idea that you genuinely think is good, don’t let (anyone) talk you out of it.”

Jonathan Alder

Jonathan Alder Local Schools held commencement ceremonies on May 26 at the high school. The high school band performed “Escape,” a piece written by Ryan Rennie, a member of the graduating class.

Of the 153 students in the class, 60 graduated with honors diplomas and two graduated with career technical honors diplomas.

The valedictorians are: Marysara Albert, McKenna Brahler, Clair Grywalski, Kayleigh Hall, Sarah Harp, Sandra Moser, Corinne Parker, Robert Sharp, Sophia Vankirk, Maxton Wehner and Sydney Winslow. The salutatorian is Zachary Robbins.

The class officers include: Sandy Moser, president; Nora Squires, vice president; Abigail Doza, secretary; Morgan Hess, treasurer; and Victor Fenik, Tolles liaison.

The class flower is a white rose. The class colors are red and black. The class chose the following quote from Anatole France as their motto: “Remember yesterday. Dream for tomorrow. Live for today.”
