A woman was sitting inside her vehicle waiting for her garage door to open at a Birch Grove Drive residence in Groveport around 8:30 p.m. on Jan. 9 when a black male yanked her from the vehicle and allegedly began beating her on the head repeatedly with a handgun.
According to Groveport Police Chief Ralph Portier, during the struggle, the suspect’s handgun discharged without striking the victim.
The victim’s son heard the gunshot and ran to aid his mother. The suspect ran to a waiting car, which was described as a dark, mid-sized vehicle.
As the suspect drove away, the victim’s son jumped in his mother’s car and chased the suspect vehicle. Both cars headed toward Ebright Road, then north. The suspect’s car ran off the road on Shannon Road north of Winchester Pike and more shots were fired, according to the son. The suspect allegedly fired several shots at the victim’s son with at least one round striking the vehicle. Portier said the suspect vehicle then continued toward Gender Road and ended up near the shopping complex at Refugee and Gender roads. The suspect then bailed out.
Portier said further investigation identified Jarrell Marquis Walker as the suspect who allegedly both assaulted the victim and fired shots at her son.
A warrant for felonious assault has been filed for Walker. Information has been received by witnesses who allege that Walker intends to "shoot it out" with police when approached. Walker should be considered armed and approached with extreme caution. Contact the Groveport Police Department at 830-2060 with any questions or known whereabouts of Walker.
