While patrons of Plank’s on Broadway were getting ready to dine, cycling enthusiasts Kathy Cook (left) and Lori Leist pedaled away in front of the eatery on Nov. 1 in support of cancer survivors. Cook and Leist are employees with the YMCA of Central Ohio (Cook is the director of aquatics at the Vaughn E. Hairston YMCA in Urbancrest) and Leist is the vice-president of human resources), which, on Oct. 1, introduced a new program called RideSTRONG. The program challenged employees and members to ride at least 250 miles throughout the month and raise $250 per participant with the proceeds going toward the LIVESTRONG at the YMCA, which benefits cancer survivors. The Vaughn E. Hairston YMCA had eight participants in the RideSTRONG program and helped raise $2,000 for LIVESTRONG. Funds were also raised at the cycling event at Plank’s on Broadway via pizza sales and a donation bucket.
