The Central Ohio Quarter Midget Racing Association dedicated its April 7 season opener to Dakota Williams, a London High School student who passed away on Feb. 29. Williams was a big fan of the race circuit, regularly attending contests held at the London track on the Madison County Fairgrounds.
In his memory, young drivers released balloons prior to the April 7 race. Driver Tripp Gerrald, 13, played the National Anthem on his trumpet. Nathan Porter, student ministry pastor at London Church of the Nazarene, led a prayer.
The racing association plans to build spectator seating that is handicap accessible and dedicate it to Williams. Williams suffered from nemaline myopathy, a congenital, hereditary neuromuscular disorder.
