Eleven Westside streets to be impacted by gas project
Columbia Gas plans to replace 16,000 feet of natural gas mainline for 11 Westside streets - costing $1.25 million. The project will impact about 419 customers and is expected to be done by sometime this fall. Streets effected include Binns Boulevard, Chestershire Avenue, Crescent Road, Eakin Road, Hague Avenue, Mound Street, Roys Avenue, Salisbury Road, Sullivant Avenue, Whitehead Road and Wiltshire Avenue. A public open house is June 2 from 7-8 p.m. at the Hilltop Public Library, 511 S. Hague Ave. The $1.25 million project will replace existing steel gas mains and service lines with long-lasting plastic pipe. Customers with indoor meters will have them moved outside of the home so entry will no longer be needed to read the meter - replacement will be done at no direct cost to the customer. In May, Columbia Gas announced a similar pipeline improvement project for the Eldon Avenue, North Ogden and Valleyview areas. Both projects are part of Columbia Gas’ $2 billion, 25-year plan to improve its 19,000 mile underground pipeline system.
