Two Westside residents face felony drug charges

Two Westside residents face drug charges after Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers seized two pounds of marijuana, valued at more than $4,500, during a traffic stop May 28.

The driver, Shawn E. Lipsey, 28, and passenger, Jessica D. Middleton, 26, were charged with aggravated trafficking, a fourth-degree felony.

Troopers stopped the vehicle in Belmont County on I-70, near milepost 220, at approximately 3:43 a.m.

The driver allegedly pulled out a bag of marijuana while retrieving his license. A probable cause search of the passenger revealed a small bag of marijuana in her pocket.

A continued probable cause search of the vehicle revealed two pounds of marijuana in the trunk.

Lipsey was also charged with OVI and driving under suspension.

Both suspects were incarcerated in Belmont County Jail. If convicted, both could face up to 18 months in prison and up to a $5,000 fine.
