Memorial Day events
Reynoldsburg
The Reynoldsburg American Legion Post #798 will hold a flag retirement and a new flag raising ceremony at the Silent Home Cemetery at 5 p.m. May 27 at the Silent Home Cemetery in Truro Township.
After the flag ceremony, the post with assistance from Reynoldsburg Scout Troop #279 will place headstone flags throughout the cemetery in remembrance of their fallen comrades. Also in attendance will be representatives of Truro Township to observe the ceremony.
Pickerington
The American Legion David Johnston Memorial Post 283 will hold a ceremony to honor veterans at 1 p.m. May 30 at 7725 Refugee Road, Pickerington.
Col. Richard T. Curry, Ret. Army National Guard and post member, will be the guest speaker.
A time capsule of memorials from the Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall will be entombed in the post memorial garden.
The American Legion also will hold two ceremonies that morning at 9 at Violet Cemetery and at 9:30 at Victory Park. At 10:30 a.m., a ceremony to honor David Johnston, Dustin Derga and Terry Parsons will be held at Glen Rest Cemetery.
At 2 p.m. May 29, the post also will hold a Bronze Star ceremony for Lcpl. Dennis Merryman, a Marine who was killed in action March 5, 1969.
