Norman Thomas once said

For those too young to have read today's revised history, back in the ancient times of political history in America, in the ‘30s and ‘40s, the Communists, Socialists, Fascists and the German Bund party groups promoting Nazism were busy agitating, protest marching and making a ruckus in general.

Running for president was Gus Hall, on the Communist ticket. Norman Thomas was the Socialist candidate. Thomas ran repeatedly and then one day was asked by a reporter why he decided not to run.

Thomas answered, “There is no need for me to run. I believe my job is done.”

Another quotation from Thomas was, “The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism, but under the name of Liberalism, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist nation without knowing how it happened.”

Sunshine patriots

Several years ago a group of people set up a table on a sidewalk with a copy of the Declaration of Independence.

They were there to take a survey to find out how many people in today’s world would be willing to sign the document. For the people who stopped to find out what the survey was about, it was explained what happened to some of the original signers.

After finding out that the patriots of 1778 were threatened with treason, were shot, and that some signers had lost all of their fortune and some had had their homes burned down to the ground, they all reneged.

This explains the type of government we have today. Thomas Jefferson said, “For tyrants and tyranny to become successful, is for good men to do nothing.” Thomas Paine wrote a pamphlet, “Sunshine Patriots.” It’s a good read.

Resident feels unrest with trash collection

This is about the trash pickup in Franklin Township. I have lived on  Richmond Road for almost 50 years and I take care of my own trash.

I have a wood stove that I help heat my house with. I raise a garden to help my food bill. When I empty out a jar of food, it gets washed and put back on the shelf.

Tim Guyton said everyone pays if they use the service or not. He also said if I found someone else that would take my trash, I would be exempt. I did this and I’ll show you a copy.

Guyton said the reason for one single hauler was to save the roads, but there are still three trash trucks coming down my road.

One for recycling, trash pickup, and one to pick up at the school at the end of the road.

I got a bill from Local Waste Services for $89. A man from the company came around and talked to me about not picking up any trash at my house. I said that was right. I accumulate one paper sack of trash a week and I put it in my stove. I showed him the stove.

I told him to take the plastic box he left for recycling with him. He put it in his pickup truck and left. I don’t have any yard waste, I grind up the leaves when I cut my grass.
