Township to purchase Hometown Inn

A Prairie Township eyesore will soon be gone.

On March 8, the township announced they have executed a contract to purchase the former Hometown Inn, located at 4601 West Broad St. The contract will be finalized in late April contingent on the township completing an environmental review of the land.

If finalized, the township will purchase the property for $1.3 million. The purchase will be funded in part by an Ohio Public Works Commission grant and monies recouped after selling a portion of the property not used in Phase III of the South Grener project.

This property, which closed in February 2008 and since then become blighted, will create a roadway from South Grener Avenue to the intersection of Old Village Road and West Broad Street. The township believes this will reduce the frequent amount of dangerous crashes witnessed at the intersection, and better the flow of traffic motorists’ experience.

Hatmaker added that the progression of this project could have been faster, but the trustees were very careful in negotiating for the property and they were sure the taxpayers were kept in mind throughout the process.

“Demolition and construction must be underway by June,” Hatmaker said.
