Eastside events for the week of Dec. 5
Annual Turkey Shoot
The Summit Station Lion’s Club will hold its annual Turkey Shoot every Sunday through Dec. 5 at the club, located on Summit Road, south of Broad Street. Sign-ups start at 10 a.m., with the first shoot starting at noon until the last shoot is done.
Cookie walk
Church of the Redeemer United Methodist will host a Cookie Walk from 9 a.m. to noon Dec. 11. Customers may select and purchase delicious homemade cookies. The church is located at 235 McNaughten Road, Columbus. For more information, call the church office at (614) 861-7160.
Toy drive
The Violet Township Fire Department and Violet Township Firefighters Local 3558 will once again hold their annual Holiday Toy Drive through Dec. 21. New, unwrapped toys for area children, as well as gift cards and monetary donations, may be dropped off at any Violet Township Firehouse. Holiday nature crafts
Kids ages 3 to 12 will enjoy a fun-filled afternoon of craft making from 1 to 3 p.m. Dec. 11 at Blacklick Woods Metro Park. Meet at the nature center.
Sheriff warning
Fairfield County Sheriff Dave Phalen wants the citizens of Fairfield County to be aware of a group of professional solicitors out of Las Vegas who have been contacting people either by phone or U.S. Mail soliciting donations to the “United States Deputy Sheriff’s Association” and other service organizations. As sheriff of Fairfield County, the only sheriff’s organization that Phalen supports is the Buckeye State Sheriff’s Association, which deals with concerns and legislative matters concerning the Sheriff’s Office of Ohio and law enforcement as a whole, according to a news release from the Office of the Sheriff.
Bread for the community
Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 530 McNaughten Road in Columbus, distributes bread, bagels and other bakery produce as part of the Panera Bread “End of Day” program. The Prince of Peace distribution is every Tuesday beginning at 5 p.m. All bread is given away free on a first-come, first-served basis, while supplies last. Everyone is welcomed.
Couples ministry
Refuge of Hope Full Gospel Church is holding a ministry of couples that connect and bring strength to couples in these trying times. The group meets at 6 p.m. the first and third Saturday of the month at 80 S. 6th St. For more information, call (614) 279-3345.
Free clinics
The following clinics are offered free through Vineyard Community Church: Computer repairs, chiropractor, medical, vision (require no insurance), legal, and auto (May-October). The clinics are offered from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on the first Wednesday of every month at Vineyard Community Church, 15187 Palmer Road SW, Reynoldsburg. Fundraising Bingo
New Beginnings Animal Shelter will host Bingo on Wednesdays at the American Legion, 7725 Refugee Road, Pickerington. Doors open at 5:45 p.m., and games start at 7 p.m. There will be a snack bar, Cookie Jar, great instants and Lucky Losers. For more information, go to www.newbeginningsas.org.
Parents’ Day Out
Parkview Presbyterian Church in Reynoldsburg is now accepting registration for its Parents’ Day Out Program.
The program is a Christian-based play group for 2- and 3-year-old children. The class meets on Fridays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Parkview Presbyterian Church is located on Livingston Avenue next to Blacklick Woods Metro Park.
