Reynoldsburg Tomato Festival seeking queen contestants

(by Christine Bryant, Eastside Editor - July 23, 2010)

It’s once again time to crown the Reynoldsburg Tomato Queen.

The annual tradition began in 1966 with Debra Hutson as queen. Being selected queen is an honor and thrill as she travels to fairs and festivals throughout Central Ohio, representing Reynoldsburg and the Tomato Festival, said Robin Baker, chairperson of the Royalty Committee.

“The wealth of knowledge and experience gained will never be forgotten,” she said. “The chance to meet new friends from other communities and visit other festivals will prove to be exciting, educational and rewarding.”

To enter the Queen and Court Contest, ladies must be entering the 11th or 12th grade this fall and live within the Reynoldsburg City School District.

The contest will be held Aug. 15 and 21, beginning with an interview session Aug. 15 and ending with the stage competition at 3 p.m. at Huber Park in Reynoldsburg.

Nominations must include the contestant’s name, address, telephone number, e-mail address and Fall 2010 grade level and school. Past candidates are eligible.

Nominations should be mailed to P.O. Box 197, Reynoldsburg, OH 43068 or e-mailed to tomato.royalty.att.net. Entries must be received on or before Aug. 7. Entries may contain a brief statement or qualifications, but it is not required. Self nominations or nominations by others are welcomed.

The Tomato Festival also will feature a Little Princess Contest in which girls entering second grade for the 2010-2011 school year and who live in the Reynoldsburg City School District are eligible. The Little Princess is chosen by chance. Applications must be received by Aug. 7 as well.

Applications for both contests are available online at www.reynoldsburgtomatofestival.org.
