Road repairs will begin in Franklin Township over the next several weeks. 

Jim Stevens, road department supervisor, said the crack and seal project will begin on the northern end of the township and will work its way south.  

This will be the second year the township has taken over the project in an effort to save money.  

In years past, the township has contracted with Franklin County.  

Last year, the township saved $14,000 by conducting its own crack and seal repairs.

The project will exclude roads that are planned for construction this year, such as those affected by the upcoming sanitary sewer projects.  

Pothole repairs will be addressed separately, said Stevens.  

While doing the crack and seal project, we will be documenting the potholes and will address them after the current project is complete, he explained.  

Stevens estimated the crack and seal project will take a minimum of five weeks to complete. However, because it is a busy time of year, other projects may present interruptions which may delay the overall time it takes to finish the project.

The project will also include repairs to the pavement at Fire Station 192 on Sullivant Avenue.  

“It’s in pretty bad shape,” said Stevens.  

Stevens explained the goal will be to extend the life of the pavement there by a few more years by doing the crack and seal repair and applying a spray coat of asphalt. He added that parts of the parking lot will eventually need to be completely redone.  

So far, the township has spent approximately $10,000 on materials for the project, he said.
