Building department takes hit in new Reynoldsburg budget

(by Rachel Scofield, staff writer - December 23, 2009)

At its Dec. 28 meeting, Reynoldsburg Council will approve by emergency the city's $12.8 million general fund budget for 2010.

The budget is less than the $13.3 million budget for 2009.
The department that is facing the largest funding decrease is the Building Department.
In 2009, the city budgeted $464,220 to the Building Department, but the 2010 budget only allots $292,766.
The Police Department funding will decrease $150,000 from $7.26 million to $7.11 million.
Mayor Brad McCloud said no services have been reduced.
"Streets are going to be plowed," McCloud said.
The council must pass the budget by emergency to ensure it is in place before the beginning of 2010.
The budget first appeared on the council agenda Oct. 19, but the council tabled the issue while the administration finalized it.
Typically budgets take a lot of time to prepare because the administration must consider revenue sources that may arise at the end of the year, McCloud said.
"We want to make sure everything is accounted for," McCloud said.
