Pickerington Schools to begin transportation negotiations

(by Anne Holmes, Staff Writer - December 15, 2009)

Pickerington Schools will begin negotiations with two bus transportation companies to replace the district's current contract that is about to expire.

Peterman, the district's current transportation provider, and First Student are the two being considered.
Due to the number of questions and high interest in the subject, Board President Lori Sanders said at the Dec. 14 meeting it will likely be necessary to hold a second general meeting in January, the fourth Monday of the month, to discuss the potential transportation contract and answer community questions. More information will be available in January.
Also at the meeting, the Pickerington School Board bid farewell to member Wes Monhollen, who has served on the board for eight years.
"There have been some trying times during the past eight years, but I am proud of the accomplishments of this board," he said. "This is the best board I have served with, the most satisfying."
Cathy Olshefski, who ran unopposed in November, will take over Monhollen's seat beginning in January. Olshefski will be sworn in at the Jan. 11 regular meeting of the school board in the Heritage Elementary Auditorium.
