Will the construction ever end?
The area within the boundaries of the Southwest Area Commission (SWAC) has become a haven for torn pavement, traffic headaches, detours and orange barrels. “It’s been road construction central this year, and probably for the next one too,” said J.P. Blackwood, program coordinator for Paving the Way. Blackwood attended the most recent SWAC meeting to update the commission on current projects, and talk about the ones in the year to come. “I don’t believe Clime Road will be closed much longer,” he said regarding the five-lane reconstruction project. “Two-way traffic should be opening around Thanksgiving, and I think the worst will be behind us when it does.” Regarding Harrisburg Pike, Blackwood advised residents to expect to see construction and turn restrictions until December. “It will be slow and tough going.” As for 2010, the projects scheduled are the widening of Alkire Road between Harrisburg Pike and Creekside Drive, and a brief closure of Brown Road between Harrisburg Pike and Hart Road for a water line installation. Blackwood also encouraged residents to visit www.pavingtheway.org for project updates, and tips on how to safely navigate in a construction zone.
