Hilltonia Homecoming celebration
Hilltonia United Methodist Church, 514 Columbian Ave., is celebrating more than 80 years of ministry on the Hilltop with a Homecoming on Oct. 11.
Former members, pastors and those whose lives have been touched by Hilltonia are invited to a day of celebration.
Morning Worship Bishop C. Joseph Sprague will be the featured preacher at 11:45 a.m., followed by a potluck lunch at noon. Bring a covered dish to share. The Homecoming celebration will follow at 1 p.m. with music by the Westside Men’s Chorus and The Boggs Family. Former Pastors will reflect on their days at Hilltonia.
Candidate night
The Prairie Township Senior Center, 4616 W. Broad St., will host a candidates night on Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. For more information, call 878-5110.
Car wash and barbecue
Hoge Memorial Presbyterian Church, 2930 W. Broad St., will host a car wash and barbecue Sept. 26, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. The cost is a $5 suggested donation for the care was. prices for the barbecue range from 25 cents to $2.50.
“Fit For the King”
Hilltop Community Full Gospel Church, 179 N. Huron Ave., will begin the program “Fit For the King” on Sept. 28 at 6:30 p.m. This program is to help those struggling with issues that affect their lives become balanced spiritually, emotionally, menatlly and physically. The program is 12 weeks, $3 per week. Fore more information, call 279-3345.
Military prayer service
Alkire Road Church of Christ, 2779 Alkire Road, will host a prayer service for our men and women serving in the military Oct. 4 at 5 p.m. A special invitation is extended to families of those serving. Bring with you the information on your family member, as well as pictures and addresses. There will be no collections taken. The evening service will follow at 6.

Low-cost flu shots
This year, more than ever, it is important to protect yourself and your loved ones against seasonal influenza. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) recommends a yearly seasonal flu vaccine as the first and most important step in protecting against seasonal flu.
LifeCare Alliance is helping to ensure a healthy central Ohio community this flu season by offering low-cost flu shots to anyone, age 3 and up. Also, LifeCare Alliance offers a no-cost flu shot alternative to high risk adults without health coverage and who meet specific financial guidelines.
Walk-in flu shot clinics will be held at LifeCare Alliance every Friday, between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at 1699 West Mound St. In addition, flu shots will be given by appointment for those unable to attend the walk-in clinics. Baked steak dinner
Parkview UMC, 344 S. Algonquin Ave., (across from Westgate Park) will hold their annual baked steak dinner Oct. 17.
Seating times are 4-5:30 p.m. and 5:30-7 p.m. Carry-out is available. The cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children. Reservations are needed by 9 p.m. on Oct. 13, and may be called to 875-0393 or the church at 274-8431.
Music, Message and Meal
There will be a free hot meal served at Hoge Memorial Presbyterian Church, 2930 W. Broad St., on the second and fourth Saturday of each month from 6-7 p.m. as a part of Hoge’s HM3 (Music, Message and Meal) program. All are welcome to attend. Fall Harvest Festival
Glenwood United Methodist Church, at the corner of Valleyview Drive and Hague Avenue, will hold its annual Fall Harvest Festival from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Oct. 3. The festival will feature crafts, flea market booths, a theme basket auction, lunch food, a bake sale, Bloodmobile, the Greater Columbus Concert Band at 1 p.m., flu shots from 9 a.m. to noon and other activities and entertainment. A Taste of India
St. Marks United United Methodist Church, 5200 Sullivant Ave., will host A Taste of India on Sept. 26 at 5 p.m. The event costs $12 for adults, $6 for children six to 12 years of age, and is free for children under six. Wilshire Heights Block Watch to meet
Wilshire Heights Block Watch will address safety issues when it meets Sept. 22, 6:30 p.m. at the Hilltop branch of the Columbus Metropolitan Library, 511 S. Hague Ave.
Sgt. Ron Kemmerling of the Columbus Division of Police, Strategic Response Bureau, Community Liaison West, will discuss motor vehicle safety, including how to report drunk or speeding drivers to the police.
In addition, representatives from the Columbus Division of Fire will speak on fire prevention. Several smoke detectors will be distributed in a free raffle.
The boundaries for Wilshire Heights Block Watch are Hague Avenue to Crescent Road, and Sullivant Avenue to Eakin Road.

Lincoln Village clean up
The Lincoln Village/West Broad Clean and Safe Community Project has scheduled a neighborhood clean up for Oct. 17. Volunteers should meet at the Lincoln Lodge at 8:30 a.m. for a hot breakfast. Clean up will be from 9 a.m. to noon. Any student participating in the cleanup will receive a community service certificate.
Westland Senior Citizens
The Westland Senior Citizens will meet on Sept. 24, at 11 a.m. at Columbia Heights United Methodist Church, 775 Galloway Road. Sandi Latimer will speak about Green Lawn Cemetery. A potluck lunch will be served at noon. For more information, call 830-0134.
The Mom Connection
Cypress Women’s Ministries invites you to join The Mom Connection (for moms with infants through kindergarten age).

American Legion Post 799
American Legion Post 799 holds their monthly meetings on the second Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Prairie Township Fire Station, 123 Inah Ave. The next meeting is scheduled for Oct. 13. Westland Area Commission

Free clothing and lunch
New Hope Church, 3060 W. Broad St., will provide free women’s, men’s and children’s clothing Sept. 26, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Free lunch will be provided. All are welcome.
Rockin’ and rollin’ with Rock on the Hill
Rock on the Hill will provide free after school fun for Westside kids every Wednesday, from 4-6 p.m., at 2500 W. Broad St. Activities include snacks, art projects, games and help with homework.
Currently being offered is a five-week music workshop. Learn to play guitar, write music and particpate in music crafts and games.
Bus transportation will be provided from West Broad Elementary, but parents must pick children up by 6 p.m.

FHHS class of ‘64

Friends Worship Center hosts senior group
Senior citizens are invited to a seniors group at Friends Worship Center, 3030 Clime Road, on the second Tuesday of each month from 12-2:30 p.m. The event will feature a light lunch, games and fellowship. Awana Clubs

Golden Age Center
The Salvation Army Golden Age Center, 2300 W. Mound St., invites anyone aged 60 or over to attend on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., for lunch, crafts, movies, BINGO, games, health and fitness, and fun. VFW Post 6065
VFW Post 6065 will hold their meetings on the third Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. Meetings last about one hour and are held at the Prairie Township Senior Center, 4616 West Broad St. Those interested in getting involved or volunteering time should attend a meeting. The Ladies Auxiliary meets at 6:30 p.m. The motivations of the VFW are patriotic, historical, and educational. They strive to perpetuate the memory and history of their dead, and to assist their widows and orphans. Call Will Davis at 309-0171 for further information.
Exercise for seniors
Seniors are invited to exercise on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 55 Pasadena Ave. Men and women aged 50 to 90 and up have exercised at the facility since 2001. The instructor leads each session with warm-ups, play balls, resistance bands, hand weights, some low-impact aerobics and balance activities. Each participant can adapt the routine to his/her comfort level. The cost is $35 for each eight-week session. Call the instructor, Lori Vazquez, at 989-4595 with questiions.
Paper recycling at Parkview
Parkview United Methodist Church, 344 S. Algonquin Ave., is providing the community with recycling bins for paper products. Bring newspapers, magazines, junk mail, etc., to the green and yellow bins in the church parking lot. No cardboard or phone books will be accepted. Questions, call 875-7231.
