Buckeye Ranch provides free family fun

The Buckeye Ranch is offering Westside families a fun way to spend a Saturday without hurting your wallet.

The organization will host a community fair on Sept. 19 at their location, 2865 W. Broad Street, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

“They shouldn’t have to spend a cent,” said Roger Minner, vice president of treatment, foster care and family based services at the Ranch.

The day will feature inflatable slides, bounce houses,  corn hole, an obstacle course and face painting, among other activities in their parking lot, on the corner of Broad Street and Powell Avenue.

They will also offer activities for younger children in their indoor gym. All activities are free of charge.

The event will also include a free smorgasbord of sweets, including cotton candy, popcorn, pretzels, and beverages.

The Hilltop Kiwanis will be on hand to give away free hot dogs and Sno-cones.

“I doubt very seriously that we will run out of hot dogs - we will run out of energy first!” said Kiwanian Vicki Malone.

The ranch is hosting the community fair in celebration of the new school year, according to Minner.

“Also, we’re a family-centered organization, and this is a way to celebrate family,” he added.

The Buckeye Ranch offers family-focused care in the areas of mental health treatment.
They also offer alcohol and drug treatment for children with psychological, behavioral and substance abuse disorders.

The West Broad Street location has been in operation for a year, and Minner says that year has been a successful one.

“We like the facility, it’s working out very well for us.” he said.

Minner added that since the location opened, it has had a chance to make program changes and adjust to the needs of the community.

Minner emphasized that the community is open to everyone.
“There will be all sorts of things for kids and families,” he said.
