'Seussical the Musical' coming to Pickerington
The Pickerington Community Theatre will present "Seussical the Musical" at 8 p.m. June 19, 20, 26 and 27 and at 2 p.m. June 21 and 28 at Pickerington Christian Church, 575 Diley Road.

Police holding blood drives
The Reynoldsburg Division of Police in conjunction with the American Red Cross will host a blood drive from noon to 6 p.m. July 6 in the main conference room of the Reynoldsburg Police Department located at 7240 E. Main St.

Pickerington hosting multi-community picnic
Sustainable Pickerington is hosting a multi-community Sustainable Group potluck picnic from 1 to 4 p.m. June 14 at Moorhead Shelter located in the upper level of Sycamore Park, 500 Hereford Drive.

Reynoldsburg offering football adult classes
The Parks and Recreation Department of the City of Reynoldsburg announces the start of enrollment in the upcoming adult education class for football.
The instructor will be Phil Kiser, an Ohio High School Athletic Association approved instructor in football.
Classes will be held at the Reynoldsburg Police Department, 7240 E. Main St., on Tuesday and/or Sunday evenings from 7 to 10 p.m. Students must attend at least 80 percent of the classes.
First class will be held at 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 12 at the Reynoldsburg Police Department.
Cost of registration is $95 per student, which includes registration with the Ohio High School Athletic Association.
Students who successfully complete the requirements of the class will be certified to umpire high school football games for the season. Classroom instruction will include class discussion on the rules of the game as well as discussion and demonstration on the mechanics of officiating a football game.

Come alive at Fest-nic V
Church of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal, 5225 Refugee Road, Columbus, is holding its fifth annual parish festival/picnic: Fest-Nic V from noon to 10 p.m.  June 27.
The event will include barbecue and regular roasted pig, brats, hot dogs, fried bologna sandwiches, pizza, baked beans, potato salad, cole slaw, roasted corn, nachos and potato chips. Drinks include pop, lemonade, iced tea, water and ice cold adult beverages.
Activities include "Bounce Houses," an 18-foot slide, obstacle courses, various children's games and activities like a duck pond, clown face bean bag toss, frog hop, cane toss, face painting and more.
Custom balloon creations will be available from Chris Merz. There also will be a silent auction, Bingo, adult games of chance, an all-day bake sale, a 50/50 raffle and a White Elephant sale. A DJ will provide music and karaoke. Call Mike at (614) 864-6149 with questions.

Bexley library holding book sale June 11-13
Bexley Public Library's June book sale will be held from Thursday, June 11 through Saturday, June 13. All unsold items will be free on Sunday, June 14.
Sale hours will be from 6 to 9 p.m. June 11, for Friends of the Library members only, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 12 and 13. The June 14 free day will be from 1 to 5 p.m.
Current members of the Friends of the Library should remember to bring 2009 membership cards for admission to the Thursday evening sale. For those who have not yet joined for 2009, memberships will be sold at the door. Dues are $5 for seniors, $10 for individuals and $15 for a family membership.
Donations of books and other items in saleable condition are still being accepted for the upcoming sale. Donations can be left on the library's loading dock or dropped off at the Circulation Desk. Receipts are available at the Circulation Desk.

Program offers advice on addressing school problems
"How to Effectively Address Problems at Your Child's School" is the topic of a parent seminar being offered at Brookwood Presbyterian Church, 2685 E. Livingston Ave., at 7 p.m. June 25.
Problems such as organizational deficits, inability to focus, behavioral "acting out," poor peer relationships, poor social skills and academic deficits need to be effectively addressed from the beginning of the school year.
Ellen Wristen, attorney at law, will share with parents effective techniques she has learned from years of representing parents in disputes with public schools iinvolving learning and behavioral problems. Writen currently works with the Brookwood Community Learning Center, an alternative educational resource center, serving students with special needs with significant social skill deficits.

Reynoldsburg cross country team looking for runners

Reynoldsburg Community Band announces concert series
The Reynoldsburg Community Band will introduce its 2009 Free Musically Stimulating Concert Series beginning June 8 on the lawn of the Reynoldsburg Senior Center, 1520 Davidson Drive, beginning at 7 p.m. 
Now in its 11th year, the band will again offer three free concerts on June 8, July 13 and Aug. 20. The Concert on June 8 will get the audience ready for Summer Fun with a performance of light classics and music from the stage, screen and circus.  Some of the featured numbers will include Them Basses, Glenn Miller Medley, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Stars and Stripes Forever.

Quilt exhibition explores spirituality, healing
A national exhibition featuring 216 quilts by 172 artists will take place June 17-28 in Reynoldsburg.
Sacred Threads is a national exhibition of quilts exploring joy, spirituality, inspiration, healing, grief and peace. 
Included this year is a special group of 16 quilts made by women in an Ohio prison. The show takes place at Reynoldsburg High School, 6699 E. Livingston Ave. Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday; 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, and from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.

POP Community Center offers theater, drama classes
Joy Eugenio-Hathaway has joined POP Community Center for the Arts to offer classes in theater and drama. 
Eugenio-Hathaway is a theater director, actress, playwright and choreographer, presently working as assistant director for Pickerington Community Theater's "Seussical The Musical." 
She is currently the drama director of Stepping Stones Drama Ministry at Pickerington Christian Church. Classes begin  June 25 at 6:30 p.m. for adults (ages 18 +) and June 26 at 4:30 p.m. for children ages 8 thru 17 at the POP Center at 895 Olde Diley Road in Pickerington.  
Classes will end with a graduation performance for both age groups Aug. 8.
The fee is $125 per six-week session.   Reservations are first come-first serve, and students will be limited per class.

RHS student signs with Kent State
Reynoldsburg High School senior Tommy Sasfy signed the National Letter of Intent with Kent Sate University May 5.
He will attend Kent State this fall on a wrestling scholarship and will be majoring in nursing. Sasfy became the second Reynoldsburg High School wrestler to finish as a runner-up in the OHSAA State Wrestling Tournament. 
He is also ranked the 20th best 140-pound wrestler in the nation, according to the Amateur Wrestling News.  While having a successful wrestling career, Sasfy was able to carry an accumulative GPA of 3.6.

Historical Society to present new board of trustees
Michael Meckler, president of the Columbus Jewish Historical Society, has announced the Nominating Committee of the Columbus Jewish Historical Society has met and is presenting the slate of officers and board of trustees for the 2009-2010 fiscal year. 
Elections of the officers and Board of Trustees of the Society will take place at the annual meeting, June 23 at 7 p.m. at the Wexner Heritage House. There is no charge and the public is invited to attend.

Shepard block watch, association to meet
The Shepard Community Association will meet at 10 a.m. the third Saturday of each month at Shepard/St. Paul United Methodist Church, 2260 E. Fifth Ave., Columbus. Kindergarten registration
Kindergarten registration for children who will be 5 years old by Sept. 30 and reside in Reynoldsburg will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. through June 30.
Registration will be hendled by the Central Registration Department at the Reynoldsburg City School District Central Office, 7244 E. Main St., Reynoldsburg.
Only the custodial parent or guardian awarded residential custody for school enrollment purposes may enroll the child. The child does not need to be present at the time of registration.
The following documentation is required:
• A completed enrollment packet (available at the Central Office or home school)
• Student's original birth certificate
• Immunization records
• Parent's driver's license or picture ID
• Custody order or decree from divorce or separation papers, and shared parenting plan, if applicable (regardless of when custody was granted)
• Proof of residency - For renting or leasing, a signed rental agreement listing all occupants including children and a piece of official mail such as a utility bill; for home ownership, a settlement statement or purchase contract or a property tax statement showing Reynoldsburg taxes being piad, and a piece of official mail such as a utility bill.

Boy Scouts celebrating 100
The Boy Scouts of America is celebrating its 100-year anniversary.
The local Boy Scout Council, Simon Kenton Council, is looking to re-connect with Boy Scouts. From now through December 2010 Simon Kenton Council is holding a major alumni search across central and southern Ohio and northern Kentucky.
The Simon Kenton Council plans to present Scouting alumni with a special lapel pin to commemorate this historic time in Scouting's history.

Bridge has come to Bexley
The Bexley-Eastmoor area now has its own ongoing Bridge game. Players gather at the JCC at 12:30 p.m. each Tuesday afternoon.
The game is open to all bridge players. If a partner is not available, players will be matched up with other players.
Duplicate Bridge rules apply and each game is scored separately, unlike scoring in Rubber Bridge.

Vineyard Community Church holding free clinics

Short term radon kits
The city of Bexley, in conjunction with the Franklin County Board of Health, has free, short term radon testing kits available for residents to check radon levels in their homes.
Radon is odorless, tasteless, and invisible, but it could be a problem in a home. Radon comes from the natural decay of uranium found in nearly all soils. According to to the United States Environmental Protection Agency, indoor radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S. and leading cause among non-smokers.
