Reynoldsburg offering sports physicals
Reynoldsburg High School is offering sports physicals for the 2009-2010 school year for student athletes who will enter grades 7-12.
The physicals will be offered May 21. The cost for a physical is $20. Checks are preferred but cash and certified money orders also accepted.
Physicals will take place at Reynoldsburg High School Gymnasium and will begin at 5:30 p.m. for females and 6 p.m. for males.
Parents and athletes should enter the building through the field house entrance only. Forms are available at the OHSAA Web site, Reynoldsburg High School Web site, at the Reynoldsburg High School Athletic Departments office, and both junior highs. To avoid long lines and waiting, parents are asked to have all paperwork completed prior to testing.

Seminar to show baby boomers how to care for futures
New Horizons 60+ group will sponsor a seminar on how members of the Baby Boom generation can take charge of their future through such topics as planning finances, how to manage a move to a smaller residence, and maintaining memory.
The seminar will be held at 7 p.m. May 19 at The Jewish Community Center (JCC) of Greater Columbus. Guest speakers will include Sarah Kaminski of Creekside at the Village, Liz Anderson of Wexner Heritage Village, Jerry Sigal of Associated Financial Services and Steven Friedman, senior real estate specialist.

PASA introduces new team member
The Pickerington Area Soccer Association (PASA) is happy to introduce Josh Racette as its new Director of Soccer and Player Development.
Racette grew up in Pickerington, playing for PASA in both the recreational and select programs. He played in the MLS on the Columbus Crew reserve squad and is currently an assistant soccer coach for Capital University.
As a club coach, Racette's teams have won more than 20 tournaments including two U.S. Club Soccer Regional Championships and the 2008 US Club Soccer National Championship with the current Columbus FC U17 Boys team.

All-terrain race provides family fun
Shepherd's Corner Farm and Ecology Center in Blacklick will host the third annual Filthy Farm 5K at 10 a.m. May 23.
The 5K run/walk will take place on a preserved 160-acre green space in the middle of suburban sprawl. The race course will cover diverse landscapes such as organic gardens, wooded trails, meadows and wetlands.

Tea welcomes members to Violet Twp. Women's League
An opportunity is being offered to all women in Violet Township, Pickerington and the surrounding area to make new friends, have fun and become involved in community activities by becoming a member of the Violet Township Women's League.

Bexley Historical Society opens museum to visitors
Beginning June 4, the Bexley Historical Society (BHS) will open its museum for the public to tour on selected Thursdays as well as Mondays.
The museum, located at 2080 Clifton Ave., will now be open the first Thursday of every month from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the second Monday of every month from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. and by appointment.
Since 2005 the historical society has been headquartered in the one-time caretaker's cottage adjacent to the Bexley city pool. The BHS refurbished the cottage, which now houses its offices as well as its museum. The BHS board of trustees also holds its meetings in the cottage.
Photographs and memorabilia that depict Bexley life for the last 100 years are displayed in the museum. The collection includes everything from a wooden school desk to a tool box brought to Bexley by covered wagon.
Drawings of Bexley scenes created by local artist Edie Mae Herrel, a founding BHS member, are also displayed.

Pickerington Chamber to present SpringFest 2009
The Pickerington Area Chamber of Commerce will present SpringFest 2009 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 23 on Windmiller Drive.
This family event will consist of a community garage sale with Volunteers of America taking unsold unwanted items, entertainment for all ages, food and friendly Trash-to-Treasure competitions.
Vendors also will sell goods that include vintage, antique, collectibles, homemade goods and art work from up-and-coming artists.
Recycling bins, shredding machines and electronic waste removal also will be provided.
Vendor fees range from $10 to $20.

'Swing into Summer' with chamber silent auction
The Reynoldsburg Area Chamber of Commerce will hold its 6th annual silent auction, "Swing into Summer," from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. May 28 at Reynoldsburg Eagles on Brice Road.
The event will include a live auction, silent auction, music, food and many networking opportunities, all in a social relaxed environment.
A portion of the proceeds from the fundraiser will go toward Leadership Reynoldsburg, designed to develop leaders within the Reynoldsburg area.
The special guest auctioneer this year will be Reynoldsburg City Attorney Jed Hood.

Kindergarten registration
Kindergarten registration for children who will be 5 years old by Sept. 30 and reside in Reynoldsburg will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. April 1 through June 30.
Registration will be hendled by the Central Registration Department at the Reynoldsburg City School District Central Office, 7244 E. Main St., Reynoldsburg.
Only the custodial parent or guardian awarded residential custody for school enrollment purposes may enroll the child. The child does not need to be present at the time of registration.
The following documentation is required:
• A completed enrollment packet (available at the Central Office or home school)
• Student's original birth certificate
• Immunization records
• Parent's driver's license or picture ID
• Custody order or decree from divorce or separation papers, and shared parenting plan, if applicable (regardless of when custody was granted)
• Proof of residency - For renting or leasing, a signed rental agreement listing all occupants including children and a piece of official mail such as a utility bill; for home ownership, a settlement statement or purchase contract or a property tax statement showing Reynoldsburg taxes being piad, and a piece of official mail such as a utility bill.

Boy Scouts celebrating 100
The Boy Scouts of America is celebrating its 100-year anniversary.
The local Boy Scout Council, Simon Kenton Council, is looking to re-connect with Boy Scouts. From now through December 2010 Simon Kenton Council is holding a major alumni search across central and southern Ohio and northern Kentucky.
The Simon Kenton Council plans to present Scouting alumni with a special lapel pin to commemorate this historic time in Scouting's history.

Bridge has come to Bexley
The Bexley-Eastmoor area now has its own ongoing Bridge game. Players gather at the JCC at 12:30 p.m. each Tuesday afternoon.
The game is open to all bridge players. If a partner is not available, players will be matched up with other players.
Duplicate Bridge rules apply and each game is scored separately, unlike scoring in Rubber Bridge.
Cost of the game is $1. Walk-ins are welcome, but advance notice is appreciated. Call Fran Kehr at (614) 251-0538. Lunch is available at the JCC for $1.50.

Vineyard Community Church holding free clinics
Vineyard Community Church, 15187 Palmer Road, Reynoldsburg, is opening five new free clinics from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. the first Wednesday of every month.
The clinics will be first come, first serve, and include computer consulting, chiropractor, vision care, legal clinic and tax preparation.

Short term radon kits
The city of Bexley, in conjunction with the Franklin County Board of Health, has free, short term radon testing kits available for residents to check radon levels in their homes.
Radon is odorless, tasteless, and invisible, but it could be a problem in a home. Radon comes from the natural decay of uranium found in nearly all soils. According to to the United States Environmental Protection Agency, indoor radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S. and leading cause among non-smokers.

Catholic Social Services' Senior Program has applications for the Home Energy Assistance program, Percentage of Income payment plan and AT&T Life Line. These programs one-time financial assisstance or ongoing financial assistance to low-income seniors and low-income disabled individuals.
