FT gets federal funds to repair Hopkins Road

The federal government allocated $75,000 to repair Hopkins Road in Franklin Township. 

The township will "more or less put the money in the bank" while the county excavates the road to replace a waterline, said township road supervisor Jim Stevens.

Once the waterline has been completed, the township will resurface the road in 2010.

Township trustee Tim Guyton said that the township and the county should hire one contractor. If the county fixes one half of the road while the township fixes the other, a seem would form where the two projects meet.

In other business, the deadline for submitting sealed bids to purchase retired Franklin Township police vehicles is May 8 at 5 p.m.

As of the April 30 trustees meeting, the township had received 10 bids on the two 2003 Crown Victorias and the 1997 Jeep Cherokee, according to Police Chief Mike Castle.

The trustees will open the bids during their May 14 meeting to decide which (if any) to accept. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. on the township office at 2193 Frank Road.
