Paper recycling at Parkview
Parkview United Methodist Church, 344  S. Algonquin Ave., is providing the community with recycling bins for paper products. Bring newspapers, magazines, junk mail, etc., to the green and yellow bins in the church parking lot. No cardboard or phone books will be accepted. Questions, call 875-7231.

Exercise for seniors
Seniors are invited to exercise on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 55 Pasadena Ave. Men and women aged 50 to 90 and up have exercised at the facility since 2001. The instructor leads each session with warm-ups, play balls, resistance bands, hand weights, some low-impact aerobics and balance activities. Each participant can adapt the routine to his/her comfort level. The cost is $35 for each eight-week session. Call the instructor, Lori Vazquez, at 989-4595 with questions.

VFW Post 6065
VFW Post 6065 will hold their meetings on the third Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. Meetings last about one hour and are held at the Prairie Township Senior Center, 4616 West Broad St. Those interested in getting involved or volunteering time should attend a meeting. The Ladies Auxiliary meets at 6:30 p.m. The motivations of the VFW are patriotic, historical, and educational. They strive to perpetuate the memory and history of their dead, and to assist their widows and orphans. Call Will Davis at 309-0171 for further information.

Golden Age Center
The Salvation Army Golden Age Center, 2300 W. Mound St., invites anyone aged 60 or over to attend on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., for lunch, crafts, movies, BINGO, games, health and fitness, and fun. Call Ellen Marvin, senior director, at 274-7600, ext. 108, one day in advance to reserve lunch for $1.25 per day. Fee for expenses is $9 per month.

MOPS at Cypress Wesleyan

Awana Clubs
Awana Clubs for boys and girls, from three-years-old to sixth grade, will be held Wednesdays, from 6:45 to 8:15 p.m. at Briggs Road Baptist Church, 3231 Briggs Road. Call 272-7430 for more information.

American Legion Post 799

American Legion Post 799 holds their monthly meetings on the second Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Prairie Township Fire Station, 123 Inah Ave. The Post is actively focusing on fund raising activities, family activities for the younger generation, setting up a Sons of the Legion auxiliary and increasing the ladies auxiliary.

The Church of the Lamb of God, 2216 Sullivant Ave., offers free meals on the fourth Saturday of each month.

PTSC exercise programs
The Prairie Township Senior Center hosts the following exercise programs that are free and open to the public:
•Mondays - 10:30 a.m., aerobics; 2 p.m., line dance
•Tuesdays - 10 a.m., gentle stretchers
•Wednesdays - 10:30 a.m., body conditioning
•Fridays - 10 a.m., gentle stretchers

FHHS class of 1989

Friends Worship Center hosts senior group
Senior citizens are invited to a seniors group at Friends Worship Center, 3030 Clime Road, on the second Tuesday of each month from 12-2:30 p.m. The event will feature a light lunch, games and fellowship. Briggs class of 1979

FHHS jazz band dinner
The Franklin Heights High School jazz band will host its annual jazz dinner and dance on April 17 from 6 to 11 p.m. at the Berwick Manor Restaurant. PTSC Lunch and Learns

FHHS students receive journalism award
Franklin Heights High School juniors Sarnell Breedlove and Katelyn West, along with senior Katie Littlefield, received a James L. McCann Excellence in Journalism award from the Ohio Capital Conference Academic League for their work in the 2007-2008 FHHS yearbook.

Abundant Life Tabernacle Easter egg hunt

Westgate Easter egg hunt
Westgate Recreation Center, 455 S. Westgate Ave., will hold its annual Easter egg hunt on Saturday, April 11, at 10 a.m.  Come to the park by 9:45 a.m. The hunt is divided into five age groups and is held for children ages 11 and under. Last Supper living dramatization
Join Columbia Heights Church, 775 Galloway Road, on Holy Thursday, April 9,  at 7 p.m. The living dramatization of the Lord's Last Supper, "Is it I?" will be performed by their members. Questions? Call the church office at 878-4530.

FH students take top honors at DECA competition
Fourteen marketing technology students from Franklin Heights High School competed at the state level of DECA competitions on March 13-14.
Arika Kesterson, a senior, placed third in the entrepreneurship event and earned a trip to the  International Career Development Conference in Anaheim, Calif., where she will compete at the highest level. This conference will attract over 15,000 students, advisors, and business leaders from all over the United States, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Canada, and Germany.
Catie Crouse, a senior, was recognized as a state finalist in the marketing test event.

Christian Women's Fellowship
An interdenominational Christian Women's Fellowship will meet April 14, at Potter's House Youth Hall, 3220 Lowell Dr.,  at 9:45 a.m.
The cost is $5 per person and includes a continental breakfast. Guest speaker Lynn Petrosino will be ministering from the Word of God and in song.

Free hot meal at HM3
There will be a free hot meal served at Hoge Memorial Presbyterian Church, 2930 W. Broad St., on Saturday, April 11, at HM3. HM3 is Hoge's music, message and a meal, taking place from 6-7 p.m. on the second Saturday of each month. All are welcome.

Hoge hosts egg hunt
There will be an Easter egg hunt for children of all ages Hoge Memorial Presbyterian Church, 2930 W. Broad St., on Saturday, April 11, from 12-2 p.m. There will be different hunting areas for each age group. This event will be held rain or shine. For more information, call the church at 276-5433.

"Soup-er" Saturday
The Prairie Township Senior Center, 4616 W. Broad St., will hold their monthly "Soup-er" Saturday fund raiser, open to the public, on Saturday, April 18, from 1-3 p.m. Featured will be old-fashioned soup beans, corn bread, dessert and a beverage, at a cost of $5. Miriam Block Watch
The Miriam Block Watch will meet in the Bishop Ready High School cafeteria on Tuesday, April 14, at 6 p.m. For information call 276-9238.  

Free immunizations
The Franklin County Board of Health will offer child and adult immunizations at the Prairie Township Fire Department, 123 Inah Ave., on April 15 from 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. and 1-3 p.m.
Required immunizations are available for a $10 administration fee for children ages one month to 18 years of age. In addition, there is a $15 assessment fee that will be charged each visit. No one will be turned away due to inability to pay for childhood immunizations.
Adult immunizations are also available and vary in price according to the vaccine, although international travel vaccines are not available.
Be sure to bring your child's shot record.  A completed consent form is required if a parent of legal guardian is not present.

FHHS class of '64
The Franklin Heights High School class of 1964 will hold its 45-year class reunion Sept. 25-27. The weekend events will include a football game, dinner at China Bell and picnic at Gantz Park in Grove City. For additional information, contact Donna Dean at 882-9369 or 499-5560.

Columbus West egg hunt
The Columbus West Church of God, 5109 Palmetto St., will host a free Easter egg hunt on April 11, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Children aged 2 to fifth grade are welcome.

Senior luncheon
There will be a senior luncheon on April 14 at noon at Westgate United Methodist Church, 61 S. Powell Ave. Open to the public. Donations accepted.

Red Cross blood drive

South Wedgewood Blockwatch
South Wedgwood Blockwatch will hold a meeting meeting on Saturday, April 25, at Big Run Park Sub Station 10 at 1 p.m. Speakers will be Danielle Weber from code enforcement and officer Brian Smith from the Columbus Division of Police. The subject will be personal safety.

Free clothing and lunch
New Hope Church, 3060 W. Broad St., will provide free women's, men's and some children's clothing on April 25 from 11 a.m to 1 p.m. Free lunch will be provided. All are welcome. This is a monthly event.

Galloway egg hunt
The Galloway Presbyterian Church is hosting an Easter egg hunt for neighborhood children age 10 and under on Saturday, April 11, at 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Baked goods will also be on sale. The church is located at Hall and Galloway roads. For more information call 878-5015.

The Westland Senior Citizens will meet April 9 at the Asian Buffet, 5666 W. Broad St., at 11:30 a.m. There will be no meeting.

Spaghetti dinner
The eighth grade students at Cypress Christian School, 377 Alton Darby Creek Road, will hold a spaghetti dinner and silent auction on April 25, from 5-8 p.m.
Cost is $8 for adults, $6 for children aged 4-10, and $26 per family (immediate family only).
All proceeds benefit the class of 2009 eighth grade mission trip to Georgia.

Officers needed for athletic boosters
Officers are needed for Westland Athletic Booster Association. Those interested in running for any of the open offices, contact Cheryl Williams at 851-1477 by April 8.  The offices available are president, first vice president of concessions, second vice president of programs, recording secretary, corresponding secretary, treasurer, membership chair, liaison chair and parliamentarian.
Terms are for one year and begin June 2009 and run through May 2010. The election meeting will be May 20 at Westland High School. Duties of the officers are listed in the by-laws and can be found on the Web site by clicking "Westland support groups," "Athletic boosters" and "Bylaws of the association" on www.westlandcougars.com.

Bishop Ready musical
Bishop Ready High School will perform their spring musical, "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown," on April 24 at 7 p.m.; April 25 at 2 p.m.; and April 26 at 2 and 7 p.m. Cost is $8 for adults, $7 for those 65 and older and $6 for students.

Westland ROTC fund raiser
The Westland High School junior ROTC will be holding a fund raiser sponsored by the Texas Roadhouse, 1770 Hilliard Rome Road, on May 12, from 4-10 p.m. Present this article during that time and 10 percent of your bill will be donated to the ROTC for their summer leadership program.

WAC to meet
The next meeting of the Westland Area Commission will be held in the media center at Westland High School at 7 p.m. on April 15. The guest speaker will be Phil Warner, deputy superintendent of South-Western City Schools.

FHHS student gets poetry award
Adel Hasan, a junior at Franklin Heights, has been honored for participation in the recent Reflections contest, sponsored by the South-Western City School's PTA. His poem took fourth place in the district-wide competition. He is now eligible to compete in the state-wide contest.
