Reynoldsburg PD to hold blood drive April 21

Livingston House Society offering scholarship
The Alexander W. Livingston House Society has announced that it will award a scholarship for 2009 to a Reynoldsburg High School (RHS) graduating senior who will be majoring in History or History Education at an accredited college or university.
In addition, applicants must currently be maintaining a minimum 3.0 accumulative grade point average. Further criteria and application guidelines are available at the RHS Guidance Office. Applications are due May 2, 2009.

Reynoldsburg offering Easter egg hunt
The Annual Reynoldsburg Community Easter Egg Hunt will be held at 1 p.m. April 11 in Huber Park. The event will be held rain or shine.
This free event is sponsored by the Ladies Auxiliary VFW 9473 in cooperation with the Veterans of Foreign Wars, VFW Color Guard 9473 and the Reynoldsburg Lions Club.
The Easter Egg Hunt is open to all children, ages 10 and younger. Children will be divided into age groups for the egg hunt and are asked to bring a basket. The Easter Bunny will be available for pictures, so bring your camera.

Metro HS event slated for April 22 honors Gee, Wadsworth
Join Metro Early College High School for an evening of excitement at the second annual Festival of Friends fundraiser, from 6 to 8 p.m. April 22 at The Ohio State University's Longaberger Alumni House, 2200 Olentangy River Road.
Dr. E. Gordon Gee, president, The Ohio State University, and Dr. Jeff Wadsworth, CEO, Battelle will receive the inaugural Friends of Metro Award at the event to recognize their organizations' support for the school.

Zoo animals come to bookstore
The Watkins Memorial High School service club, More Than Us, is hosting an all-day long special event April 11 at the Pickerington Barnes and Noble, located at 1738 Hill Road North.
The Columbus Zoo will bring animals to the store from 4 to 5 p.m. that kids can interact with in the Children's stage area.
Other events that day include an American Girl Tea Party at 10 a.m., a Watkins Jazz performance at 10:15 a.m., making Play-Doh at 11:30 a.m., Bakugan Battles (for boys) and Easter crafts for all children at 1 p.m., Watkins Vocal Ensemble performance at 3:30 p.m., animal crafts from 5 to 7 p.m., a "Camping In" activity from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and a "Reading in Your PJs" activity from 8:30 to 10 p.m.
The students are sponsoring this event to raise money for their service projects, which include highway clean-up, Pilot Dogs, Reach out and Read, and Children's Hospital.
If vouchers are used on this day, the club will have a portion of the voucher sales donated back to them. Vouchers are available at Watkins High School or on the day of the event.

Shepard block watch, association to meet
The Shepard Community Association will meet at 10 a.m. the third Saturday of each month at Shepard/St. Paul United Methodist Church, 2260 E. Fifth Ave., Columbus. Pickerington Garden Club to hold meeting April 15

Spring Carnival April 25 at Rosehill Elementary
Rosehill Elementary School will host its Spring Carnival from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. April 25.
The elementary school is located at 760 Rosehill Road, Reynoldsburg.
There will be lots of games, photo opportunities with famous characters, bounce house and slide, a hot air balloon lift, the famous double cake walk, basket raffles, a dollar raffle that doesn't stop, a silent auction, food and more.

Education Appreciation Banquet to honor 'Friend'
Bexley City School District's 29th Annual Education Appreciation Banquet will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. May 20 at Harry C. Moores Campus Center.
The event is sponsored by the Bexley Board of Education and the Parent Teacher Organizations.
Nominations are now being accepted for the "Friend of Education" award. This award is sponsored by the Board of Education and given to an individual who has made a significant contribution to public education in the city of Bexley and who is not a current employee of the Bexley City School District.
Nomination forms may be obtained from the school offices and returned to Joan Fishel, Bexley Board of Education, 348 S. Cassingham Road, by April 27.

Breakfast with the Bunny
The Pickerington Parks and Recreation Department and Nationwide Children's Hospital TWIG #165 present the 2009 Breakfast with the Bunny to be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. April 11 at Pickerington High School Central Commons.
Food, crafts, games, face painting, digital photographs and a visit by the Easter Bunny himself highlight the event.
Tickets are $5 each for adults and children 12 months and older. Tickets can be purchased through the Pickerington Parks and Recreation Department, 51 E. Columbus St. Checks must be payable to TWIG #165. Tickets must be purchased in advance; tickets will not be available at the door. All proceeds benefit TWIG #165 of Children's Hospital.

Help community during emergency through class
The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) will hold training sessions in April and May for those in the community who are interested in being prepared for emergencies.
In 95 percent of all emergencies, the victim or bystander provides the first immediate assistance on the scene.
CERT training includes disaster preparedness, fire safety, basic disaster medical operations, light search and rescue, disaster psychology, team building and terrorism awareness.
All classes will be held at the Pleasantville Fire Department, located at Coonpath Road and S.R. 188.
The next training dates will be from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. April 20, 22, 27 and 29 and May 6, and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 9. Attendance at each session is required for completion of the class. Class attire is casual. The course includes lecture and hands-on activities.

Walkers, volunteers needed for Columbus MS event
Take the first step toward a world free of multiple sclerosis by joining the National Multiple Society's 2009 Walk MS presented by Giant Eagle.
Taking a walk is a pretty ordinary activity. But it can become an extraordinary activity when the walk benefits people living with the chronic, unpredictable disease of the central nervous system.
Join the movement to provide programs and services for people with multiple sclerosis by participating in Walk MS. The Columbus Walk MS event will be held April 18, starting with a 7:30 a.m. check-in at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, located at 9990 Riverside Drive in Powell.
The route is approximately 1.5 miles and walkers have the option of looping it twice as they explore the zoo and aquarium. All walkers can participate as individuals or as part of a team, collecting pledges and earning incentive prizes. Each Ohio walker raises an average $225 toward much-needed support for more than 18,000 Ohioans living with multiple sclerosis.
In Central and Southeast Ohio, Walk MS will be held in McConnelsville (Muskingum River Parkway) on April 17. Walk MS events will also be held in Athens (Athens Community Center), Lancaster (Fairfield County Fairgrounds), and Newark (Dawes Arboretum) on April 18.
"People with multiple sclerosis are facing many challenges" said Janet Kramer, president of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society's Ohio Buckeye Chapter. "Walk MS raises funds to address those challenges. All the proceeds from the event provide direct support for people with multiple sclerosis and funds MS-related research to find a cure for the disease."

Prince of Peace offers community Easter events
Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 530 McNaughten Road, will host "All Around Easter" and an Easter egg hunt April 11. Come anytime between 10 a.m. and noon.
"All Around Easter" features six interactive stations that help kids and parents discover the meaning of Easter, and concludes with the Easter egg hunt.

Club to present 'Come to Cabaret' annual card party
The Knights of Columbus Women's Club, Reynoldsburg will host its annual card party April 14 at St. Pius X School Gym, 1061 Waggoner Road, Reynoldsburg.
The event will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. Tickets are $10 and include door prizes, dessert buffet, appetizers, coffee, tea and punch. A silent auction and raffle will be held.
This year the event will have live entertainment performed by Eastland Performing Arts Cabaret. Bring your own cards or games and have fun.

Humane Society to host Doggie 'Egg'stravaganza
CHA Animal Shelter is hosting a Doggie Easter Egg Hunt at 10 a.m. April 4. A $5 donation will go to help care for CHA's homeless animals. CHA is at 3765 Corporate Drive, in northeast Columbus. While you're there, visit the Easter Bunny and Fleshman Photography for pictures - $15 for two 5-by-7's. The rain date is 10 a.m. April 5.
At noon April 18, The Pooch Playground will host a second Doggie Easter Egg Hunt. A $5 donation supports the Pooch Playground Dog Park, Pizzurro Park, located at I-270 and Hamilton Road in Gahanna. The rain date is noon April 19.
"A good time is had by all," says Terri Montigny, development director for CHA Animal Shelter and a dog park volunteer. "We put hundreds of dog treats and prizes in plastic eggs. Some dogs actually pick them up and open the eggs for the treats, while others wait patiently for their owners to gather the eggs for them. These are really fun events - all well behaved dogs should attend."

Square Dance Club to serve spaghetti dinner
The Friendly Ties Western Square Dance Club will serve its semi-annual spaghetti dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. April 9 at the Pickerington Senior Center, 150 Hereford Drive. Dinner includes all-you-can-eat spaghetti with meat sauce, one meatball, salad, bread, applesauce, dessert and beverage. Cost is $7 for adults and $3.50 for children. Proceeds benefit the Senior Center.

Kindergarten registration in Bexley to begin
Parents of children who will be 5 years old by Sept. 30 and who live within the City of Bexley may enroll their children in the Bexley City School District's half-day kindertarten program.
Parents are advised that Ohio requires students successfully complete a kindergarten program prior to being admitted to first grade. Children may attend public or private kindergarten programs to meet this requirement.
Kindergarten registration for the 2009-2010 school year will be held April 7 for students with last name beginning with A through M and on April 8 for students with last name beginning with N through Z. Registration on both days will be from 9 to 11 a.m. or from 1 to 3 p.m.
Parents should bring the child's original birth certificate (to be copied) and proof of residency to their elementary school. It is helpful to bring the child's immunization records at this time. Bring custodial papers as well if this applies.

Campers to get a 'taste' of summer at the JCC
Campers already registered for the JCC Summer Camps - and those who are interested in registering - are invited to a "Taste of Camp" event from 2 to 4 p.m. April 19, at the Jewish Community Center (JCC) of Greater Columbus, 1125 College Ave., Bexley.
"Children will have the opportunity to try many of the awesome activities we will be provided at camp this summer, including yoga, basketball, cooking, music, arts and crafts, and swimming," said Naomi Friedman, JCC Children, Youth and Camping director. "They also will have the opportunity to meet many of the great camp staff who will be working this summer, as well as enjoy carnival treats such as Sno Cones and popcorn."
Those wearing their camp T-shirts from last year will receive a special prize, and four free weeks of camp will be raffled off.
Admission is free for campers who already are registered for this year's summer camp, as well as for those who are registering for camp during the event (a special camp discount will apply for those registering). Admission for all other attendees is $5.

Helicopter to drop eggs at Easter egg hunt
Grace Fellowship Church in Pickerington, located at 7140 Reynoldsburg-Baltimore Road, is having an Easter Eggsplosion Easter Egg Hunt at 3 p.m. April 5.
A helicopter will drop the eggs. Games, prizes, candy and other activities also will take place.
The event is free and for children in fourth grade and younger.

Kindergarten registration
Kindergarten registration for children who will be 5 years old by Sept. 30 and reside in Reynoldsburg will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. April 1 through June 30.
Registration will be hendled by the Central Registration Department at the Reynoldsburg City School District Central Office, 7244 E. Main St., Reynoldsburg.
Only the custodial parent or guardian awarded residential custody for school enrollment purposes may enroll the child. The child does not need to be present at the time of registration.
The following documentation is required:
• A completed enrollment packet (available at the Central Office or home school)
• Student's original birth certificate
• Immunization records
• Parent's driver's license or picture ID
• Custody order or decree from divorce or separation papers, and shared parenting plan, if applicable (regardless of when custody was granted)
• Proof of residency - For renting or leasing, a signed rental agreement listing all occupants including children and a piece of official mail such as a utility bill; for home ownership, a settlement statement or purchase contract or a property tax statement showing Reynoldsburg taxes being piad, and a piece of official mail such as a utility bill.

Boy Scouts celebrating 100
The Boy Scouts of America is celebrating its 100-year anniversary.
The local Boy Scout Council, Simon Kenton Council, is looking to re-connect with Boy Scouts. From now through December 2010 Simon Kenton Council is holding a major alumni search across central and southern Ohio and northern Kentucky.
The Simon Kenton Council plans to present Scouting alumni with a special lapel pin to commemorate this historic time in Scouting's history.

Bridge has come to Bexley
The Bexley-Eastmoor area now has its own ongoing Bridge game. Players gather at the JCC at 12:30 p.m. each Tuesday afternoon.
The game is open to all bridge players. If a partner is not available, players will be matched up with other players.
Duplicate Bridge rules apply and each game is scored separately, unlike scoring in Rubber Bridge.

Vineyard Community Church holding free clinics

Short term radon kits
The city of Bexley, in conjunction with the Franklin County Board of Health, has free, short term radon testing kits available for residents to check radon levels in their homes.
Radon is odorless, tasteless, and invisible, but it could be a problem in a home. Radon comes from the natural decay of uranium found in nearly all soils. According to to the United States Environmental Protection Agency, indoor radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S. and leading cause among non-smokers.
