Rosehill Road construction begins

Construction signs are up, orange cones are stacked and preparations for phase one of the Reynoldsburg Rosehill Road construction project have begun.

At a March 10 public meeting to update residents and answer questions, James Miller, director of engineering for the city of Reynoldsburg, reported that utility companies are relocating their facilities and water lines will be moved after April 1.

Trash pick-up and mail service will continue without interruption. Residents with mail boxes along the construction zone may find that contractors have lifted them out and moved them back off the property line. The post office is aware of construction plans and is making their own plan to maintain delivery service, Miller said.

Any property owner along the construction zone who has not signed a temporary work agreement is asked to contact Mary Burcham, assistant to engineer and safety/service directors at mburcham@ci.reynoldsburg.oh.us or (614) 322-6840 to complete the simple form.

If a form is not on file, a retaining wall will be built along the affected property line hindering and delaying work. Burcham said when the project is complete, affected property will be re-seeded and resod.

Actual removal of road surface is not expected until sometime in July. During phase two, when storm sewer facilities are replaced, there will be work on curbs and driveway aprons. It is possible there may be minor disruptions to accessibility of driveways, but there always will be available parking on one side or the other of the street, officials said.

Through the duration of the project, access to Rosehill Road will be available , though project leaders urge residents and visitors to consider alternate travel routes that will minimize necessary travel distance along Rosehill Road. Briarcliff and Brice Road are primary alternate routes and all intersections with side streets will remain accessible for local traffic.

Burcham suggests when deciding whether to travel through the construction zone, drivers consider if there is an alternate, safer way to reach their destination. While Rosehill Road will remain accessible, it still will be a construction zone with associated dangers.

"Be patient. This is a project long awaited and much needed and will be complete by Dec. 31," Burcham said.

Phase one is scheduled to be completed by Dec. 31. Phase two will be a shorter process with work anticipated to begin mid-April and be completed within 75 days.
