| Arsonists destroyed two vans used by Pickerington Central to transport the Tigers' smaller athletic teams. Pickerington police and the Violet Township fire department are still investigating the incident, which occurred Feb. 16. |
Vandals broke into a shed behind Pickerington Central, splattered the campus with purple paint and set ablaze two school vans used for small team athletics.
At press time, school officials had yet to ascertain if anything had been stolen from the shed.
Around 10:20 p.m. Feb. 16, a passerby saw one of the vans on fire and dialed 9-1-1.
At midnight the police notified Superintendent Dr. Karen Mantia, school board member Lisa Reade said.
Although the investigation is still ongoing, Pickerington Police Commander Ralph Portier said, "I think it's real (probable) a young adult did this."
The police "are planning to taking a look at the cameras to find out if we see anyone who might have been out in the area," Reade said.
Violet Township Fire Department is conducting an arson investigation.
